Anthropic Targets Mid‑November IPO Ahead of Thanksgiving Deal Freeze

Anthropic, the artificial‑intelligence startup behind the Claude software suite, is preparing for an initial public offering that could rank among the largest ever. Company officials are reportedly targeting a public debut before the Thanksgiving holiday, a move intended to sidestep the informal freeze on dealmaking that typically surrounds the holiday period.

Timing and Market Strategy

Sources indicate that the firm hopes to complete the offering in mid‑November, although a slip into early December remains possible. Early December has historically been a popular window for IPOs, but the company appears to prefer the earlier date to capture investor attention before the seasonal slowdown.

By moving ahead of the Thanksgiving pause, Anthropic aims to avoid the reduced liquidity and heightened uncertainty that often follow major holidays. The strategy mirrors past attempts by high‑profile tech firms to position their listings during periods of robust market activity.

Financial Outlook and Valuation

When SpaceX went public in June, its shares were priced at $135 each, valuing the company at $1.77 trillion and setting a record for the largest IPO to date. Early speculation suggested Anthropic could surpass that benchmark, potentially reaching a $2 trillion valuation. Current analyst estimates, however, have been revised downward.

Most analysts now anticipate a valuation near $1.5 trillion, with some projections as low as $1.2 trillion. The revised range reflects recent market volatility, heightened scrutiny of AI‑sector valuations, and updated assessments of Anthropic’s business momentum.According to a leaked draft of the company’s prospectus, Anthropic generated roughly $16.3 billion in revenue during the first half of the current year, a dramatic increase from about $1.1 billion in the comparable period a year earlier. The same filing disclosed a net loss of approximately $80.7 billion for the first half of 2026.

Third‑quarter figures released later showed sales of $16.8 billion, representing a 45 percent sequential increase. While the growth rate remains impressive, some analysts had expected an even faster expansion given the strong performance earlier in the year.

The combination of soaring revenue and substantial losses underscores the capital‑intensive nature of advanced AI development. Investors will be weighing the company’s rapid top‑line growth against the sizable deficit as they consider the IPO’s pricing and potential market impact.

If Anthropic proceeds with a mid‑November listing, the offering could influence broader market sentiment toward AI‑related stocks, especially as other technology firms assess the viability of large‑scale public offerings in a climate of cautious valuation standards.
