Health officials have confirmed a human case of the Jamestown Canyon virus, a mosquito-borne illness, in Charlotte, Vermont. This is the second consecutive year the virus has been detected in the state.

Details regarding the specific infection were not immediately available. Last year, health officials began testing mosquitoes for the Jamestown Canyon virus for the first time. The virus was subsequently found in mosquitoes in the Rutland, Marshfield, and Whitingham areas.
Symptoms and Prevention
While most individuals infected with the Jamestown Canyon virus do not develop serious illness, some can experience flu-like symptoms or become severely sick. Common symptoms include fever, fatigue, and headache. Currently, there is no vaccine available for the virus, nor is there a specific treatment.
To minimize the risk of mosquito bites, health officials recommend protective measures such as wearing long sleeves and pants when outdoors. Limiting outdoor activity during dusk and dawn, when mosquitoes are most active, and using insect repellent are also advised.
