Rockstar Games announced that players will be able to begin preloading the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S next week. The preloading window opens on Tuesday, November 10, at 12 a.m. GMT for Xbox Series X/S, which corresponds to 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET on November 9. For PlayStation 5 users, the download starts at midnight in each local time zone.
Preload logistics and storage requirements
The digital preload file is sizable, requiring 212 GB of free space on the console’s storage. Rockstar advises owners to verify available capacity before initiating the download to avoid interruptions. The preloading process will allow the game to be fully installed on the console ahead of its official launch, enabling players to start playing as soon as the title goes live.
Physical box options and code distribution
Although Rockstar will not manufacture physical discs for Grand Theft Auto VI, the company will still offer a traditional retail box that contains a download code. These “code‑in‑box” versions are slated to reach retailers beginning November 12. Consumers who prefer a tangible product can purchase the box, insert the code, and then download the game using the preloaded data.
Launch‑day extras and additional merchandise
In conjunction with the November 19 launch, Rockstar will provide a free printable poster of the game’s cover art and a map of the fictional city of Leonida on the official Grand Theft Auto VI website. A double‑sided physical version of the poster will become available shortly after launch through the Rockstar Store. The physical poster is priced at $0.99 on its own, but it will be included at no extra cost with any other purchase from the store.
Beyond the preloading details, Rockstar has highlighted other aspects of the upcoming title. The game’s original score includes a track titled “Pusher,” and the launch trailer has already generated significant buzz. Additional exclusive stories note that GTA VI will feature over 170 animal species and incorporate dynamic tropical storms and hurricanes, underscoring the game’s expansive and immersive design.
Players eager to experience Grand Theft Auto VI can now prepare their consoles for the massive download, secure a physical box if desired, and look forward to a suite of launch‑day digital content. With the preloading period set to begin on November 10, the window provides a clear timeline for gamers to ensure they are ready for the November 19 release across both major next‑gen platforms.
