Delhi‑based Dell Technologies convened its 2026 Forum in Mumbai to discuss how Indian enterprises are evolving their AI strategies. Sessions featuring Dell, engineering partner L&T Vyoma and financial‑services customers revealed five overarching trends: the migration from pilot projects to factory‑scale AI deployments, heightened focus on data sovereignty, the push to bring AI capabilities to employee endpoints, a shift toward consumption‑based infrastructure spending, and a national effort to close the emerging AI skills gap.
Factory‑scale AI deployments reshape data‑centre design
According to Prashant Chiranjive Jain, managing director of L&T Vyoma, the company is transitioning from traditional colocation models to what it calls “AI factories.” A flagship example is the 10,000‑GPU NVIDIA B300 cluster installed at L&T Vyoma’s Chennai campus, described as India’s largest single‑cluster AI installation. The facility is intended to support a spectrum of workloads, from large‑scale inference to fine‑tuning and full‑training tasks.
Jain emphasized that such a deployment goes far beyond simply adding GPUs to an existing rack. It demands coordinated upgrades across power delivery, cooling capacity, networking bandwidth and storage architecture. The Chennai site currently supplies 30 MW of power, with plans to expand the broader campus for even higher capacity. Dell Technologies, NVIDIA and L&T Vyoma collaborated on the engineering design, jointly addressing the challenges of high‑density compute, thermal management and data‑flow optimization.
The project underscores a broader industry shift: AI infrastructure is becoming a multi‑layer engineering problem that requires expertise in more than just server hardware. Sovereign cloud and data‑location considerations drive architecture choices

L&T Vyoma positions its offering as a sovereign AI cloud and hyperscale data‑centre platform, aimed at meeting regulatory and compliance requirements for sensitive workloads. Jain highlighted the strategic advantage of owning the full technology stack within national borders, allowing customers to keep data and workloads under direct control.
The discussion pointed out that for organizations handling regulated information, infrastructure decisions are inseparable from concerns about where data resides, how it is secured and which jurisdictions apply. As a result, sovereignty is being treated as a core design parameter rather than a peripheral policy issue. This creates demand for technology providers that can deliver end‑to‑end solutions encompassing security, compliance, and operational support.
AI reaches the employee desk through intelligent PCs and endpoint management
Jacinta Quah, representing Dell, addressed how AI is moving out of the data centre and into the everyday tools used by staff. She described a vision where AI‑enabled personal computers (AI PCs) and specialized workstations become integral parts of the enterprise AI architecture. These devices are intended to run on‑device workloads, enhance endpoint security and simplify device management while delivering AI‑driven functionality directly to users.
Quah noted that Dell matches specific workloads to the most suitable compute environment, positioning AI PCs for routine productivity enhancements and workstations for more compute‑intensive tasks. She stressed that bringing AI closer to the user must be balanced with robust security controls and consistent data governance, echoing the sentiment that the modern workplace is the arena where strategic AI initiatives are realized.
The shift toward endpoint AI expands the responsibilities of IT teams, who must now consider deployment, security, and management of AI‑enabled devices alongside traditional infrastructure components. For technology partners, this creates opportunities to integrate AI capabilities with existing workplace solutions, endpoint security products and device‑management services.
Consumption‑based infrastructure aligns spending with business growth
Financial‑services participants illustrated how infrastructure budgeting is being tied to actual business consumption. Rahul Dayal, chief technology officer of SBI Funds Management, explained the firm’s hybrid architecture that blends cloud services with on‑premises resources for workloads that demand tighter control. The organization also leverages Dell APEX, a consumption‑based model that allows capacity to be scaled in line with the mutual‑fund business’s expansion.
Dayal’s remarks highlighted a practical challenge for banks and asset managers: rapid growth can quickly outpace static technology provisions, making flexibility, availability and cyber‑resilience essential considerations. By treating infrastructure as a business decision rather than a one‑off procurement, SBI Funds Management demonstrates how enterprises can dynamically adjust capacity while maintaining cost efficiency.
National upskilling programme addresses AI talent shortage
Beyond technology, Dell used the forum to announce “uDaan: Empowering India’s Future Workforce,” a collaborative programme targeting 23,000 young people for training in AI, cloud and electronics manufacturing. The initiative brings together Dell, the Federation of Indian Trade and Technical Institutes (FITT‑IIT Delhi), Learning Links Foundation and Generation India Foundation.
uDaan will engage 100 industrial training institutes and 90 higher‑education institutions across Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune. Four curricula are being crafted—AI application development, cloud development, assembly‑line operations and field‑technician skills—with input from more than 40 employers spanning technology firms, electronics manufacturers, global capability centres and hyperscalers. The programme emphasizes direct pathways to employment, apprenticeships and entrepreneurship, and Dell commits over 2,000 mentorship hours from its staff.
Manish Gupta, president and managing director of Dell Technologies India, warned that the nation’s AI economy is generating roles faster than employers can fill them, and that these roles require new competencies. By linking education to industry demand, Dell aims to create a pipeline of talent capable of developing AI applications, managing cloud environments, operating complex infrastructure and supporting the hardware that underpins these systems.
Collectively, the five takeaways from the Dell Technologies Forum illustrate a maturing AI ecosystem in India.
