Apple launches Home Collection with LG cameras, Schneider thermostats

Apple announced a broad set of new hardware on a single day, adding a HomeView smart display, a next‑generation Apple TV 4K, a second‑generation HomePod mini, and a new Apple Home Collection of smart‑home accessories. The collection was created in partnership with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric and is positioned as a seamless extension of Apple’s Home ecosystem, relying on Siri and the Home app for control.

Integrated accessories designed for a single‑tap setup

All devices in the Home Collection are configured with a single tap of an iPhone and can be managed entirely from Apple’s Home app or via Siri voice commands. No separate companion apps or additional accounts are required. Each accessory supports Thread, Apple’s low‑latency mesh networking protocol, and can automatically update its Wi‑Fi credentials if a user changes the home network. The integration aims to keep the user experience consistent across Apple’s existing hardware, such as HomePod, HomePod mini, HomeView and Apple TV 4K.

Camera lineup offers high‑resolution video and AI detection

The collection includes four LG‑branded cameras: a Video Doorbell Wired, a Floodlight Cam, an Outdoor Cam Plug‑In and an Indoor Cam Plug‑In. All four record up to 2.5K resolution video and incorporate on‑device AI that can recognize people, familiar faces, pets, vehicles and packages. Video footage is stored in the user’s iCloud+ plan, eliminating the need for a separate camera subscription.

The Video Doorbell Wired pairs a 2.5K front‑facing camera with a Full HD lower camera that monitors packages. It also features a built‑in spotlight, two‑way talk and a chime that can play through HomeView, HomePod or HomePod mini. The Floodlight Cam adds dual adaptive floodlights that turn on automatically when motion is detected, and it includes low‑light colour night vision.

The Outdoor Cam Plug‑In also provides low‑light colour night vision and is designed for easy angling and installation. The Indoor Cam Plug‑In offers a 160‑degree field of view and a physical tilt mechanism that raises the camera when a user checks in on the home and lowers it once the first household member returns, with the option for manual tilt via the Home app.

Smart lock and thermostats bring automated access and climate control

The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock uses Ultra Wideband to detect the approach of an iPhone or Apple Watch, unlocking the door automatically without a tap. Traditional unlocking methods remain available, including tap‑to‑unlock, a built‑in PIN pad and a hidden physical key. The lock can report whether the door is opened, closed or tampered with, and guest access can be shared through the Home app. It supports Matter and Aliro, and its core functions run locally, allowing operation without an internet connection.

On the climate side, the collection offers two smart thermostats: LG’s round‑shaped Smart Thermostat and Schneider Electric’s Home Smart Thermostat, which features a small silver metal bezel and a translucent matte display. Both thermostats employ Adaptive Temperature in the Home app, automatically adjusting heating and cooling based on occupancy status—home, asleep or away. They are compatible with a broad range of HVAC systems and include on‑device wire detection to simplify DIY installation.

Both thermostats can read temperature and humidity from multiple rooms by using sensors built into HomeView, HomePod and HomePod mini, as well as two standalone sensor units—LG’s Temperature Sensor and Schneider’s Home Room Sensor. The sensors are small, can be placed in any room, and use Matter over Thread for responsive connections. LG states its algorithms reduce measurement error and capture temperature changes in real time.

Privacy, connectivity and market rollout

Apple emphasizes that data stored in the Home app, including camera footage, is end‑to‑end encrypted. Neither Apple, LG nor Schneider Electric can read the content. Video processing occurs locally on the home hub or within Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, and footage is retained in iCloud for ten days. A Home hub—such as HomeView, HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K—is required for full functionality.

All Home Collection devices will go on sale in December, with a subset slated for release in early 2027. Pricing is as follows: the LG Video Doorbell Wired is $249.95, the Floodlight Cam $399.95, the Outdoor Cam Plug‑In $299.95, the Indoor Cam Plug‑In $199.95, and the Smart Deadbolt Lock $349.95. Both the LG Smart Thermostat and Schneider Home Smart Thermostat are priced at $199.95 each, while the LG Temperature Sensor and Schneider Home Room Sensor are $39.95 each. The cameras will be available in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom; the lock, thermostats and sensors are limited to the United States and Canada for the initial launch.

By leveraging Thread, Matter compatibility, and Apple’s existing Home ecosystem, the Apple Home Collection aims to provide a cohesive, privacy‑focused smart‑home experience that integrates hardware from LG and Schneider Electric under a single, Apple‑centric control plane.
