WGSN and Coloro reveal AW28/29 colour palette on runways and streets

WGSN and colour‑technology specialist Coloro have announced a new core colour palette for the Autumn/Winter 2028‑29 season. The selection, which includes five distinct hues, is positioned as a response to consumers’ growing appetite for emotional grounding, personal expression and resilience. “Consumers will be navigating the threshold of a new decade, and this sense of liminality informs the palette,” said Gemma Riberti, director of colour, materials and finishes at WGSN.

Early visibility in Spring 2027 collections

Although the official AW28/29 collections are still months away, the palette has already surfaced in Spring 2027 runway presentations and on the outfits of fashion‑week attendees. Designers have incorporated the new shades across a range of garment categories, from structured womenswear to relaxed menswear, as well as accessories and street‑level styling. This early adoption provides a preview of how the colours may shape the aesthetic of the upcoming season.

Palette breakdown and runway presence

Bloodstone is described as the anchor shade of the season. The deep, moody tone is intended to echo the tension and contradictions of an unpredictable world while emphasizing the importance of emotional connection. On the runway, Bloodstone appeared in a variety of fluid silhouettes. In menswear, designers used loosely tailored suiting to showcase the colour’s intensity, while womenswear featured extreme drapery that highlighted its depth. The hue was also present in accessories and street‑style looks, reinforcing its cross‑category versatility.

Liminal Yellow is positioned as an “in‑between” colour, straddling two shades and two states. It offers a warm familiarity that is slightly unsettling, acting as a counterpoint to sensory overstimulation and digital fatigue. The colour’s calming quality was evident in womenswear through structured draping, whereas menswear incorporated the shade into shirting and denim pieces. Accessories took a more surprising turn, with oversized gloves, knee‑high trainers and large bags adopting the muted yellow tone, and street‑style enthusiasts also featuring the hue in their ensembles.

Elemental Verdigris sits between grey and blue, targeting a desire for calm in an overstimulating environment. The colour’s softening effect was noted on the runway, where it mellowed even the most rigid shapes, lending a gentle appearance to garments that might otherwise feel harsh. WGSN linked the shade to consumer sentiment around longevity and quality, a narrative that was reinforced by the prevalence of tactile accessories—such as bags and shoes—rendered in Verdigris.

Healing Turmeric offers a stronger, orange‑tinged hue designed to inspire confidence and optimism. The colour made a bold statement on the catwalk, particularly in womenswear occasionwear. Designers chose it for flashy gowns that alternated between silky, draped forms and more structured silhouettes. In menswear, the shade dominated head‑to‑toe co‑ord sets, creating a cohesive, vibrant look that underscored the colour’s assertive character.

Smoky Amethyst moves fluidly between dark and light, presenting a dusky purple that evokes spirituality and sanctuary. The shade is presented as ideal for explorations of escapism. While it appeared across a broad range of runway pieces, its most notable presence was in accessories, especially those featuring snakeskin textures. Bags and shoes in Smoky Amethyst added an elusive, luxurious dimension to the collections, and street‑style practitioners were observed pairing the hue with other seasonal tones.

Consumer implications and street‑style translation

The palette’s early adoption signals a shift toward colours that address both emotional needs and aesthetic fatigue. By integrating hues that balance familiarity with a hint of unease, designers aim to offer wearers a sense of stability amid rapid cultural change. The presence of the colours in accessories—gloves, trainers, bags, and snakeskin pieces—suggests that the trend will extend beyond apparel, influencing everyday styling choices.

Street‑style observers have already incorporated the palette into their looks, mirroring runway experimentation. Bloodstone can be seen in oversized outerwear, Liminal Yellow in statement footwear, Elemental Verdigris in textured handbags, Healing Turmeric in coordinated streetwear ensembles, and Smoky Amethyst in bold, animal‑print accessories. This diffusion from high‑fashion runways to everyday streets underscores the palette’s broad appeal and its potential to shape consumer wardrobes throughout the upcoming decade.

As the fashion industry moves toward the AW28/29 season, the five‑colour palette from WGSN and Coloro offers a cohesive narrative that blends emotional resonance with visual impact. Its early visibility in SS27 collections provides a tangible glimpse of how designers and consumers alike may interpret the themes of liminality, calm, optimism and escapism in the years ahead.
