Currently, India\u2019s TCS is India&#8217;s largest IT services firm, and this unexpected move will impact the global workforce this year.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Money Control, TCS CEO K Krithivasan termed the decision a \u201c<em>hard but necessary reckoning<\/em>.&#8221; Krithivasan also vehemently denied that the job cuts were due to the rise of a<a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/04\/29\/free-vs-paid-ai-tools-whats-your-pick\/\">rtificial intelligence (AI) as a domain<\/a>. He further added that the layoffs will be implemented gradually over FY26 and will not be tied to any particular geography or domain. \u201c<em>We will do it in a very, very compassionate way<\/em>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>However, in its statement announcing the move, the company attributed the decision partly to the rise of Artificial Intelligence. &#8220;<em>TCS is on a journey to become a Future-Ready organisation. This includes strategic initiatives on multiple fronts, including investing in new-tech areas, entering new markets, deploying AI at scale for our clients and ourselves, deepening our partnerships, creating next-gen infrastructure, and realigning our workforce model<\/em>. <em>Towards this, a number of reskilling and redeployment initiatives have been underway<\/em>. <em>As part of this journey, we will also be releasing associates from the organisation whose deployment may not be feasible. This will impact about 2 per cent of our global workforce, primarily in the middle and the senior grades, over the course of the year<\/em>,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>After the company increased its workforce by around 5000 employees in the April-June quarter Q1, the TCS workforce stood at close to 613,000 employees as of June 30, 2025. The company said that the transition was being planned to prevent any impact in delivery of services to the clients. It was quite evident from the official statement that several reskilling and redeployment initiatives were underway \u2013 with the industry norms of working changing, adapting AI and operating model transitions has become imperative.<\/p>\n<p>The TCS job cuts have been indicative of the new employment trend, almost 30 months after the debut of <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/04\/28\/level-up-your-learning-top-ai-tools-for-college-students-in-2025\/\">ChatGPT (Open AI)<\/a> cast a shadow over the business model of India\u2019s IT giants employing armies of coders \u2013 bringing about a paradigm shift in the perception and operation of the industry.
