The regulations were announced by Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Ravi Shankar Prasad at a press conference at 2 pm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Modi government on Thursday released guidelines for Internet media and OTT platforms. Now OTT platforms like Netflix-Amazon or social media platforms like Facebook-Twitter have become strict rules for everyone. According to the new guidelines, objectionable content has to be removed from the internet media within 24 hours of the complaint. Apart from this, companies have to have a grievance redressal mechanism and also have an officer handling complaint. The complaint will be registered in 24 hours and will be resolved in 15 days. The government is set to implement a law regulating digital content in three months. Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Ravi Shankar Prasad gave this information in a press conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prasad said, &#8220;Social media companies are welcome to do business in India. We appreciate it. Do business and earn money.&#8221; He said that the government respects the right of disagreement but it is extremely important that users be given a forum to raise questions about misuse of social media. Prasad said that we have received many complaints that marched photographs are being shared on social media. They are being used for terrorist activities. Prasad said that the issue of misuse of social media platforms has gone from civil society to Parliament and Supreme Court.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What&#8217;s in a social media policy?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are two types of categories: Social Media Intermediary and Significant Social Media Intermediate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everybody has to make a grievance redressal mechanism. Complaint will be registered in 24 hours and will have to be disposed of in 14 days.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If there is a complaint of messing up in respect of the users, especially women, then the content will have to be removed in 24 hours.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Significant social media will have to be Chief Compliance Officer who will be resident of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A nodal contact person will have to be in touch with legal agencies round the clock.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monthly Compliance Report will have to be released.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First of all, who has to do any fraud on social media, will have to tell the social media company about it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every social media company should have an address in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every social media platform should have a user verification mechanism.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rules for social media will be applicable from today itself. Significand social media intermediary will get three months&#8217; time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ethics code of the censor board will be common, the media should be accountable, the digital media portal does not have the right to spread rumors or lies.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear: both;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The central government has today released guidelines for social media and over-the-top (OTT) platforms.
