Commercial flights are expected to begin within 45 days of the launch, initially connecting at least 10 Indian cities.

First Phase: Single Runway and 12 million Passenger Capacity

Phase one of the Jewar airport will open with a single 3,900-metre runway and a state-of-the-art passenger terminal designed to handle 12 million travellers annually. The project is planned to expand in four stages, ultimately scaling up to an impressive 70 million passengers per year. Officials expect around six million passengers in the first year alone.

Spread across 1334 hectares, the airport is set to become the second major commercial airport for the National Capital Region (NCR), complementing Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Cargo and Connectivity Potential

Speaking about the airport’s strategic importance, Minister Naidu highlighted that Jewar is not just about passenger traffic. “We see it as more than civil aviation connectivity — it will be a major cargo hub as well,” he said. The airport is expected to strengthen the logistics sector, boosting trade opportunities and supporting NCR’s economic growth.

Construction Progress in Final Stages

According to project officials, construction has entered its final phase. The runway and Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower are already complete, while the terminal building is close to full readiness. Key systems such as aerobridges, baggage handling, electronic gates, and seating arrangements are in place. Interior work including lighting, washrooms, and passenger galleries is nearing completion.

The airport concessionaire, Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), confirmed that the core aeronautical infrastructure is complete. Roofing work on the terminal is done, while technical installations and finishing touches are progressing swiftly.

Trials and Approvals Underway

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has already begun commissioning systems in the ATC tower. At the same time, Operational Readiness and Airport Transition (ORAT) trials are being conducted. These include simulations for airlines and ground staff, as well as tests on baggage handling, check-in counters, boarding gates, and security equipment.

The next critical step will be obtaining the aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which will allow commercial operations to officially begin.

Airlines on Board for Launch

Several airlines have already committed to operating from Jewar. IndiGo, which successfully conducted a validation flight in December 2023, has signed an MoU to serve as the launch carrier. Akasa Air, one of India’s newest airlines, has also expressed interest in building a strong network from the new airport.

Officials confirmed that flights to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and other major destinations are being finalized for the initial phase of operations.

Delays and Penalties on the Project

The Noida International Airport project has faced multiple delays. Initially slated for September 2024, the launch was later pushed to mid-2025. However, further setbacks led the Uttar Pradesh government to impose a daily penalty of INR 10 lakh on the concessionaire from January 2025 to accelerate progress.

With construction now nearly complete and ORAT trials underway, officials expressed confidence that the project is finally on track for timely inauguration and operations.

A New Era for NCR Aviation

The opening of Jewar airport marks a milestone in India’s aviation sector. Once operational, it will ease congestion at Delhi Airport, provide world-class facilities to passengers, and create a new hub for cargo and logistics in northern India. With its strategic location and massive expansion potential, Noida International Airport is set to become one of India’s most important aviation gateways in the coming decade.

The long-awaited Noida International Airport in Jewar is nearing completion and is now scheduled for inauguration on October 30, 2025, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu…

[299
530,533,531,529,532
post-1227","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-airports-authority-of-india-aai","tag-civil-aviation","tag-jewar-international-airport","tag-kinjarapu-rammohan-naidu","tag-noida","entry
["GET
