The move comes amid rising concerns after 11 children lost their lives, allegedly linked to the consumption of contaminated syrups.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"512\" data-end=\"558\">Rising Cases of Child Deaths Raise Alarms<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"559\" data-end=\"874\">Madhya Pradesh\u2019s Chhindwara district witnessed the tragic deaths of nine children within just two weeks, most of whom reportedly suffered from kidney failure. At least five of the deceased children had consumed a cough syrup named <strong data-start=\"790\" data-end=\"801\">Coldref<\/strong>, while one was given <strong data-start=\"823\" data-end=\"839\">Nextro syrup<\/strong> before their condition worsened.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"876\" data-end=\"1149\">A similar case was also reported from Rajasthan\u2019s Sikar district, where a child died under comparable circumstances. Health authorities fear a possible connection between these deaths and contaminated cough syrups, though official testing has not confirmed contamination.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1151\" data-end=\"1188\">Health Ministry and State Action<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1189\" data-end=\"1442\">Following these incidents, health officials in Madhya Pradesh directed private practitioners not to prescribe syrups for viral infections in children. Instead, suspected cases must be referred to government-run Civil Hospitals for immediate treatment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1444\" data-end=\"1743\">In Rajasthan, three child deaths have also been linked to cough syrups distributed by Kayson Pharma. The state government has ordered an in-depth investigation into all products manufactured by the company. Samples of the syrups are under testing, and distribution has been temporarily halted.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1745\" data-end=\"1789\">No Contamination Found in Syrup Samples<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1790\" data-end=\"2196\">The Union Health Ministry has clarified that initial testing of the suspected syrups showed no traces of diethylene glycol (DEG) or ethylene glycol (EG) &#8211; chemicals often responsible for severe kidney damage in past contamination cases. The findings were also supported by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and the Madhya Pradesh State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1790\" data-end=\"2196\">It said, these are generally not recommended for children below five years, and above that, any use should follow careful clinical evaluation with close supervision and strict adherence to appropriate dosing and avoiding multiple drug combinations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2198\" data-end=\"2343\">\u201c<em>Till now, no contamination has been found in our testing. Reports of contamination are unsubstantiated and baseless<\/em>,\u201d CDSCO sources confirmed.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2345\" data-end=\"2392\">DGHS Advisory to Parents and Manufacturers<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2393\" data-end=\"2675\">Despite the absence of proven contamination, the DGHS has advised parents to avoid giving cough syrups to young children.
