However, this numerical advantage did not translate into electoral victories, raising questions about how vote share works and why a party can still lose despite widespread support.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"768\" data-end=\"1320\">The RJD, which headed the <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/11\/14\/bihar-election-2025-nitish-kumar-set-for-5th-term-as-nda\/\">Mahagathbandhan<\/a> alliance alongside the Congress, contested in <strong data-start=\"853\" data-end=\"875\">143 constituencies<\/strong> as part of the seat-sharing agreement. Yet, the party won only <strong data-start=\"939\" data-end=\"951\">25 seats<\/strong>, marking a disappointing outcome for a party that <em>once dominated Bihar\u2019s political landscape. <\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"768\" data-end=\"1320\">Interestingly, this election saw the RJD garner <strong data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1125\">23% of the total votes cast<\/strong>, the <strong><em>highest vote share for any single party.<\/em><\/strong> While this marks a slight dip from the 23.11% vote share it secured in the 2020 elections, the number <em>still indicates strong grassroots support.\u00a0<\/em>The <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/11\/14\/bihar-election-2025-finding-nimo-script-history-with-200-seats\/\">Bihar Election 2025<\/a> turned out to be a rather glittery affair, as <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/11\/14\/bihar-election-2025-finding-nimo-script-history-with-200-seats\/\">NDA&#8217;s thumping victory<\/a> has gone down as one of its finest performances in recent times, especially in a state like Bihar.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1322\" data-end=\"1349\"><strong data-start=\"1326\" data-end=\"1349\">What Is Vote Share?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1350\" data-end=\"1717\">Vote share refers to the <strong data-start=\"1375\" data-end=\"1447\">percentage of total votes a party receives across all constituencies<\/strong>, irrespective of the number of seats won. It reflects the overall popularity or acceptability of a party amongst the voters. In many cases, the <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/11\/14\/bihar-election-2025-nitish-kumar-set-for-5th-term-as-nda\/\">RJD finished second or third<\/a> with sizeable vote numbers. These votes counted toward its overall vote share but did not help win seats.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2196\" data-end=\"2442\">\n<p data-start=\"2199\" data-end=\"2442\"><strong data-start=\"2199\" data-end=\"2240\">Wasted Votes in Losing Constituencies<\/strong><br data-start=\"2240\" data-end=\"2243\" \/>In several constituencies, the RJD either lost narrowly or won by thin margins. The votes it collected in constituencies it lost added to its vote share but did nothing to increase its seat tally.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2444\" data-end=\"2802\">\n<p data-start=\"2447\" data-end=\"2802\"><strong data-start=\"2447\" data-end=\"2483\">Higher Number of Seats Contested<\/strong><br data-start=\"2483\" data-end=\"2486\" \/>Compared to the <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/11\/12\/bihar-election-results-nitish-kumars-supremacy-again\/\">BJP and JD(U),<\/a> which contested <strong data-start=\"2536\" data-end=\"2554\">101 seats each<\/strong>, the RJD contested in <strong data-start=\"2574\" data-end=\"2600\">42 more constituencies<\/strong>. Naturally, contesting in <em>more seats allowed the party to gather more votes,<\/em> even if many of those contests did not result in victories. This inflated the actual vote share without improving the final seat count.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2804\" data-end=\"3147\">\n<p data-start=\"2807\" data-end=\"3147\"><strong data-start=\"2807\" data-end=\"2848\">Underperformance of Alliance Partners<\/strong><br data-start=\"2848\" data-end=\"2851\" \/>The Mahagathbandhan (MGB) overall suffered major setbacks. The <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/11\/14\/bihar-election-2025-nitish-kumar-set-for-5th-term-as-nda\/\">Congress<\/a> won only <strong data-start=\"2929\" data-end=\"2950\">6 out of 61 seats<\/strong>, while the CPI(ML)L secured two seats, CPI(M) won 01, and the CPI failed to win any. The entire alliance managed only <strong data-start=\"3070\" data-end=\"3082\">35 seats<\/strong>, which significantly weakened RJD\u2019s prospects in several regions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 data-start=\"3149\" data-end=\"3183\"><strong data-start=\"3153\" data-end=\"3183\">NDA\u2019s Dominant Performance<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3184\" data-end=\"3570\">On the other hand, the <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/11\/12\/bihar-election-results-nitish-kumars-supremacy-again\/\">National Democratic Alliance (NDA)<\/a> achieved a decisive victory with <strong data-start=\"3275\" data-end=\"3288\">202 seats<\/strong>. The BJP emerged as the largest contributor with <strong data-start=\"3338\" data-end=\"3350\">89 seats<\/strong>, followed by the JD(U) with <strong data-start=\"3379\" data-end=\"3391\">85 seats<\/strong>. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) led by Chirag Paswan won <strong data-start=\"3454\" data-end=\"3466\">19 seats<\/strong>, Jitan Ram Manjhi\u2019s HAM secured <strong data-start=\"3499\" data-end=\"3504\">5<\/strong>, and Upendra Kushwaha\u2019s Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) claimed <strong data-start=\"3558\" data-end=\"3569\">4 seats<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear: both;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In an interesting twist in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) found itself in a rather unpleasant position.
