A high-level meeting between a 10-member TMC delegation and senior ECI officials ended in sharp exchanges, further deepening one of the most polarizing political battles of the year.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"650\" data-end=\"709\"><strong data-start=\"653\" data-end=\"709\">ECI Gives Point-by-Point Rebuttal to TMC Allegations<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"711\" data-end=\"1031\">During the meeting, the <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/10\/27\/ecis-special-intensive-revision-list-to-roll-out-phase-1-ready\/\">Election Commission<\/a> strongly countered what it described as &#8216;<em>baseless allegations<\/em>&#8216; raised by the TMC. Sources within the Commission said the delegation was categorically told to wait until <strong data-start=\"924\" data-end=\"938\">December 9<\/strong>, when the draft electoral rolls will be made public, before submitting claims or objections.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"1033\" data-end=\"1375\">The ECI underlined that the party must refrain from interfering with the professional duties of <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/10\/27\/ecis-special-intensive-revision-list-to-roll-out-phase-1-ready\/\">Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs)<\/a> and District Election Officers (DEOs).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1033\" data-end=\"1375\">All of these officials are state government employees deputed to conduct election-related responsibilities and must function independently.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1033\" data-end=\"1375\">Officials further claimed that the TMC was specifically cautioned <strong data-start=\"1443\" data-end=\"1480\">not to influence or threaten BLOs<\/strong>, particularly in relation to the verification of deceased, shifted or duplicate voters.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1033\" data-end=\"1375\">Reinforcing its stand on voter eligibility, the Commission reminded the delegation that <strong data-start=\"1657\" data-end=\"1702\">only Indian citizens are eligible to vote<\/strong>, citing Article 326 of the Constitution, adding that no foreign national can be enlisted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"1794\" data-end=\"1854\"><strong data-start=\"1797\" data-end=\"1854\">ECI Introduces Strong Measures After Recent Incidents<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1856\" data-end=\"2032\">In response to recent tensions and reports of pressure tactics, the ECI has adopted several new administrative and security steps to safeguard the integrity of the SIR process.\u00a0A <strong data-start=\"2036\" data-end=\"2061\">special roll observer<\/strong> has been appointed for West Bengal to monitor the voter list revision. The Commission has also issued directives to the <strong data-start=\"2182\" data-end=\"2231\">Director General of Police (DGP), West Bengal<\/strong>, and the <strong data-start=\"2241\" data-end=\"2272\">Kolkata Police Commissioner<\/strong> to ensure that BLOs are not intimidated by political workers.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2336\" data-end=\"2546\">To improve accessibility for urban and marginalized voters, all DEOs have been instructed to set up <strong data-start=\"2436\" data-end=\"2510\">new polling booths in slums, high-rise complexes and gated communities<\/strong>, in accordance with national norms.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2548\" data-end=\"2857\">Amid concerns over security lapses at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, the ECI has ordered the premises to be shifted to a more secure location. The Kolkata Police Commissioner has been directed to provide <strong data-start=\"2783\" data-end=\"2802\">full protection<\/strong> to both the existing office and the new proposed site.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2859\" data-end=\"2907\"><strong data-start=\"2862\" data-end=\"2907\">Why has the SIR Become Big?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2909\" data-end=\"3154\">The TMC has repeatedly accused the Election Commission of <strong><em>mismanagement, bias and undue administrative pressure<\/em><\/strong> during the SIR.\u00a0Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has constantly raised serious concerns about the ongoing process, pointing to reports of BLO overwork and alleged deaths. While the <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/10\/27\/ecis-special-intensive-revision-list-to-roll-out-phase-1-ready\/\">ECI<\/a> agreed to meet the party delegation, the confrontation appears to have widened instead of bringing clarity.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3492\" data-end=\"3779\">Simultaneously, the <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/08\/11\/opposition-mps-set-to-march-from-parliament-to-ec-office-major-show-expected\/\">TMC<\/a> has initiated a major organizational restructuring to strengthen its on-ground oversight during the SIR. According to party sources, Mamata Banerjee expressed dissatisfaction with \u201cinconsistent progress\u201d in several districts, prompting a sweeping internal review.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3781\" data-end=\"4159\">TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has deployed <strong data-start=\"3843\" data-end=\"3866\">nine senior leaders<\/strong> for district-level monitoring and warned that inadequate engagement might create volatile situations ahead of the 2026 state elections.
