The company aims to raise ₹1,553 crore through this IPO, with approximately 92% of the funds coming from a fresh issue.

The story of Milky Mist began in 1985 when the company’s founder, Chairman and Managing Director T Sathish Kumar, decided to venture into the dairy business. Kumar, who came from an agricultural background, initially joined his family’s milk trading business but soon realized that the milk supply was highly unorganized. He then decided to focus on making paneer, which was in high demand at the time.

Over three decades later, Milky Mist has diversified its product portfolio to include a range of value-added dairy products such as cheese, butter, ghee, yogurt, and ice cream, along with frozen, ready-to-eat, and ready-to-cook products. The company’s decision to focus on value-added products is driven by the fact that these products offer higher margins compared to fresh milk, which is a low-margin commodity with margins typically ranging from 5-8%.

Business Strategy

Milky Mist’s business strategy is centered around sourcing milk from farmers and converting it into value-added products. The company sources milk from over 74,600 farmers across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, all within a 400-kilometer radius of its single large manufacturing plant in Perundurai, near Coimbatore. This approach enables the company to build strong relationships with its suppliers and ensures that farmers receive their payments within 7-10 days.

The company’s products are sold through various channels, including retail stores, supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, and cafes, as well as its own platform, e-commerce, quick commerce, and exclusive Milky Mist parlors. Approximately 86% of its revenue comes from offline channels, while the remaining 14% comes from online channels.

Financial Performance

Milky Mist has demonstrated strong financial performance in recent years, with revenue growing at over 30% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR). The company generated ₹3,138 crore in revenue in FY26, with nearly 60% coming from paneer, cheese, and curd. Its operating margins have remained steady, ranging from 12-14%.

The company’s IPO proceeds will be utilized to repay its outstanding debt and expand or modernize its Perundurai plant. A portion of the funds will also be used to deploy freezers and coolers and for general corporate purposes.

Risks and Concerns

Despite its strong financial performance and business strategy, Milky Mist faces several risks and concerns. The company is heavily concentrated in South India, with approximately 95% of its raw milk coming from Tamil Nadu and nearly 70% of its revenue coming from the region. This concentration can be risky, as any disruption to demand or supply in these regions could impact the company’s revenues and profits.

Additionally, Milky Mist relies on a single large manufacturing plant in Perundurai, which poses a production risk. If the facility is forced to shut down due to a natural disaster, industrial accident, or other disruption, production could be severely impacted.

The company also carries a high debt-to-equity ratio of 3.6 times, which is a concern. Although it plans to use nearly ₹500 crore of the IPO proceeds to repay its debt, it will still have around ₹1,175 crore of debt on its books after the repayment.

Furthermore, the original Milky Mist trademark is pledged as collateral to lenders, which poses a risk to the company’s reputation and business if it defaults or breaches certain loan terms.

The company’s valuation is also a concern, with a Price-to-Earnings (P/E) ratio of approximately 85 times its FY26 earnings. This is significantly higher than its peers, such as Dodla Dairy and Parag Milk Foods, which trade at P/Es of around 21-24.

In conclusion, Milky Mist’s IPO presents an opportunity for investors to participate in the company’s growth story. However, it is essential to carefully evaluate the company’s risks and concerns, as well as its valuation, before making an investment decision.

[299
1451,1368,1450
post-1636","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-dairy-products","tag-ipo","tag-milky-mist","entry
["GET
