The research, which surveyed 200 senior GCC executives across eight different industries, highlights skill gaps as an emerging strategic risk for the country’s increasingly important offshore hubs.

Survey reveals immediate operational impacts

Eleven percent of respondents disclosed that their global headquarters are actively reviewing or even shifting mandates to competing geographies because of the talent crunch. More than half of the GCCs—59 percent—reported that insufficient skilled staff have caused delays in product launches, project timelines or go‑to‑market plans. In parallel, 54 percent said that the shortage is hampering their ability to scale artificial‑intelligence (AI) initiatives and broader digital‑transformation programmes.

Rising costs and employee pressure compound the challenge

The shortage is also driving up operating expenses. Fifty‑six percent of the centres said they have become more dependent on external vendors or contractors, a shift that comes with higher cost implications. At the same time, 49 percent noted that skilled employees are experiencing higher attrition rates as workloads increase, while 45 percent reported wage inflation that far exceeds their original budget forecasts.

These pressures are emerging at a time when Indian GCCs are moving beyond traditional, execution‑focused roles. More than 85 percent of the surveyed centres expect their operating mandates to broaden by 2030, encompassing greater technology leadership, strategic ownership and additional capabilities. One in five GCCs is even targeting global profit‑and‑loss responsibility, signaling a shift toward a more influential position within their parent organisations.

Competition and the need for swift action

The report cautions that India’s leadership in the global GCC landscape cannot be taken for granted. Other countries are actively strengthening their talent ecosystems, creating competition for the high‑value mandates that Indian centres currently secure.

According to the study, 80 percent of GCC leaders believe decisive action is required within the next twelve months to bolster capabilities at the workforce, managerial and leadership levels. Presently, talent‑investment budgets sit at roughly three percent of operating budgets, but executives say those allocations may need to double to at least six percent to meet the demands of the AI era. In fact, 94 percent of respondents say a minimum six‑percent investment is essential, and 27 percent anticipate spending that exceeds eight percent.

When asked about the most effective interventions, more than half of the executives (53 percent) endorsed industry‑designed GCC‑ready certification standards. AI centres of excellence and AI‑powered learning platforms followed closely, each receiving support from 51 percent of respondents. Cross‑GCC executive AI leadership academies were backed by 48 percent.

The study concludes that GCCs which succeed in cultivating AI‑ready leaders, building composite‑skilled workforces and fostering stronger talent ecosystems could transition from being primarily execution centres to becoming centres of influence. Such a transformation would enable them to play a larger role in innovation and global business strategy, rather than remaining confined to cost‑focused delivery models.

In summary, the PwC India‑FICCI findings paint a picture of an Indian GCC sector at a crossroads: talent shortages are already disrupting timelines and inflating costs, yet the same centres are poised to assume broader strategic responsibilities. Addressing the skill gap through increased investment, targeted certification programmes and AI‑focused learning initiatives appears to be the path that industry leaders deem necessary to sustain growth and preserve India’s competitive edge in the global capability centre ecosystem.

A PwC India‑FICCI survey warns that talent gaps are delaying product launches, inflating costs and forcing Indian GCCs to rethink investment as they aim for larger strategic roles by 2030.

[299
1596,1594,1597,1598,1595
post-1712","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-ai-workforce","tag-global-capability-centres","tag-india-tech","tag-investment","tag-talent-shortage","entry
["GET
