The incident, captured on a video that later went viral on social media, shows the youths being surrounded, with the girl appearing to be groped and restrained. The commission also called for a detailed Action\u2011Taken Report and asked that the objectionable video be removed from further circulation.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the Bihar State Commission for Women, led by chairperson Apsara, expressed &#8220;stern&#8221; intent to act against those involved. The commission\u2019s statement highlighted the incident\u2019s timing \u2013 7\u202fp.m. on September\u202f19 \u2013 and promised support for the victims, condemning the &#8220;weird mindset&#8221; of the perpetrators.<\/p>\n<h2>Political condemnation and demands for accountability<\/h2>\n<p>Opposition leaders quickly labeled the episode as indicative of a broader patriarchal culture. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, also Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, described the video as &#8220;deeply disturbing&#8221; and condemned the notion that any man can police a girl\u2019s body. He called for prosecution under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and questioned the Bihar government\u2019s ability to ensure safety on public roads after dark.<\/p>\n<p>Congress president Mallikarjun\u202fKharge echoed Gandhi\u2019s concerns, demanding the &#8220;harshest punishment&#8221; for the culprits and accusing the ruling BJP of hypocrisy regarding its &#8220;Nari Shakti Vandan&#8221; and &#8220;Beti Bachao&#8221; initiatives. He referenced previous high\u2011profile crimes in Jamui and Delhi to underline systemic failures.<\/p>\n<p>Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, who serves as Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, criticized the state administration, noting that the incident occurred while Chief Minister Samrat\u202fChoudhary was presiding over a caste conference. Yadav\u2019s sister, Rohini Acharya, based in Singapore, called the episode &#8220;extremely shameful&#8221; and highlighted the deteriorating law\u2011and\u2011order situation under the current government.<\/p>\n<p>Another RJD figure, former MLA Shakti Singh Yadav, asserted that the state\u2019s claim of safe travel for women at any hour no longer held true, describing the law\u2011and\u2011order scenario as &#8220;completely collapsed&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2>Government officials\u2019 response<\/h2>\n<p>State Rural Works Minister Sunil Kumar said he had been briefed by the Jamui superintendent and affirmed that all those implicated would soon be behind bars. Kumar emphasized that the incident had reached the highest levels of state administration.<\/p>\n<p>Bihar Sports Minister Shreyasi\u202fSingh, who also serves as the BJP MLA from Jamui, noted that the victims had not filed a formal FIR; the police initiated the case after the video spread online. She expressed satisfaction with the administrative steps taken and anticipated further arrests.<\/p>\n<p>The combined actions of the police, the NCW, the state women\u2019s commission, and statements from multiple political figures underscore the heightened sensitivity surrounding women\u2019s safety in Bihar.
