The first generation comprises five flagship devices from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, with prices beginning at $899. Pre‑orders are now open through the Google Store, Best Buy and select retailers, and the laptops will be available for purchase in the United States on October 4, followed by Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia on October 5.

Hardware standards and design cues

Google has set a clear hardware baseline for any device bearing the Googlebook name. All models ship with a minimum of 16 GB of RAM, while some configurations offer up to 32 GB. Storage starts at 256 GB, and each laptop must feature a touch‑enabled display capable of supporting up to a 2.8K OLED panel. Premium build materials such as aluminum, magnesium alloy or carbon‑fiber are required, and every device includes a backlit keyboard.

AI performance is a core differentiator. The launch laptops use Intel or Qualcomm processors paired with dedicated neural‑processing units (NPUs) that deliver more than 45 tera‑operations‑per‑second (TOPS) of on‑device AI capability. Battery life is rated for up to 14 hours of video playback and 16 hours of web browsing, aligning with the platform’s focus on mobile‑first productivity.

One of the most visible design elements is the “Glowbar,” a light strip that runs along the exterior of each laptop. The Glowbar illuminates during boot, can display battery level, and animates in response to interactions with Google’s Gemini AI. Google plans to open the Glowbar to third‑party developers, allowing custom animations and visual feedback.

Software experience and continuity features

Googlebook runs on Googlebook OS, built on the Android stack with foundations from Chrome OS. The platform retains a full Chrome browser with extension support, a complete Linux terminal, and access to millions of Android apps via the Play Store. Google highlights a curated Play Store section that surfaces apps optimized for larger screens, while still allowing non‑optimized apps to be installed.</n

Continuity is a central promise of the platform. During initial setup, an Android phone’s settings, saved passwords, Wi‑Fi networks and messages are transferred to the laptop using end‑to‑end encryption. Features such as “Continue On” let users pick up a task on the laptop where they left off on the phone, while the Files app provides direct access to phone‑stored files and photos. “Cast My Apps” enables streaming and interactive use of phone apps inside a desktop window. Chrome browsing also continues seamlessly across devices.

Security inherits Chrome OS architecture, including the Titan hardware root of trust, layered defenses and on‑device malware detection. A Level 5 security‑certified pKVM hypervisor isolates the Linux environment, yet still offers developers a full terminal and related tools. Google commits to ten years of OS updates and feature drops for Googlebook devices.

Gemini AI integration

Gemini, Google’s generative AI model, is tightly woven into the Googlebook experience. The “Magic Pointer” feature activates when the user wiggles the cursor, prompting Gemini to appear over the current screen area. From there, Gemini can interpret text, images and context, such as converting a marathon training plan into calendar events or analyzing an email for legitimacy.

Another AI tool, “Rambler,” resides next to the Quick Insert key. Borrowed from Pixel devices, Rambler transforms spoken thoughts into structured notes with headings, action items and multilingual support. The “Create My Widget” function lets users describe a desired widget in plain language, and Gemini generates it without any coding required.

All Googlebook laptops include a twelve‑month subscription to Google AI Pro with 5 TB of cloud storage, as well as Gemini Advanced tools. Buyers also receive three months of YouTube Premium and a three‑month license for Adobe Photoshop.

Launch lineup and availability

The initial lineup features five distinct models. Acer’s offering is the only convertible, allowing the screen to fold back for tablet use. ASUS delivers the lightest device at roughly 1 kg, while Lenovo’s model sports a larger 15.3‑inch display aimed at productivity‑heavy users. Dell and HP round out the set, each providing premium materials, touchscreens and backlit keyboards. Select models add haptic trackpads, fingerprint sensors and facial authentication.

Pricing starts at $899, with the Acer Googlebook 14 positioned as the most affordable entry point. Pre‑orders are already live, and the first shipments are slated for early October in the United States. International roll‑out follows a day later in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia.

Google’s entry into the laptop market with an Android‑centric platform marks a strategic shift from its long‑standing focus on Chromebooks. By combining Android app compatibility, robust AI hardware, and deep phone‑laptop integration, Googlebook seeks to offer a “totally fresh approach to computing” for users who rely heavily on Android ecosystems.

Google’s new Googlebook platform arrives with five premium Android‑powered laptops starting at $899, featuring AI‑focused hardware, seamless phone‑laptop continuity and a distinctive Glowbar.

[299
2285,2283,2284,2282,2286
post-2139","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-ai-hardware","tag-android-laptops","tag-gemini-ai","tag-googlebook","tag-laptop-market","entry
["GET
