What is the common scene? People trying to run away from the traffic police when they are violating the rules. People don’t wear helmets, don’t carry Driving License, Registration Card, and other required documents, and expect the police not to catch hold of them and fine them. Moreover, the statewide motor vehicle acts and amendments make it tough for the people. There is one more news coming up for the Gangetic plain people.

People living in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida and having a vehicle, this news is for you. If you have not yet installed a High-Security Number Plate (HSRP) in your two-wheeler or car, then do it as soon as possible as you will be fined Rs. 5,500 after April 15 if you have not yet installed it in your vehicle. About 10 lakh vehicles are moving in Noida and most of them do not have the HSRP installed in their vehicles.

So, seeing the seriousness of the vehicle owners, the district administration has taken this strict step of drawing a challan of Rs. 5,500 on non-compliance with the above law. Also, it is to be noted that if you have the slip, then challan will not be issued. So it is suggested to the vehicle owners to have the slip with them while driving to avoid challan. Registration slip will be with only those who have booked online and got waiting after months.

What is HSRP?

The HSRP is a hologram sticker mentioning the engine and chassis numbers of the vehicle and this is pasted on your vehicle’s number plate. This particular technology is designed to keep your vehicle safe and secure. Once this sticker is pasted on your vehicle number plates, it cannot be removed easily. The main advantage of HSRP number plates is, it reduces theft of vehicles as the thieves cannot tamper with the number plates of the vehicles. And one more advantage of this kind of number plate is that it can be easily traced by the authorities during any emergency or theft or any other time of mishap.

The high-security number plate is made of aluminum which cannot be changed. The reason for this is that this plate has a hologram of blue Ashoka Chakra made of chromium metal which enhances its safety. Apart from this, the digits are embossed on this plate.

The automobile expert and tech enthusiast, Tutu Dhawan had his say about the HSRP rule:

According to me, if thieves want to remove it in any way. Nor is our online web system so strong that even after the arrival of this system, there will be a lot of difference. And here is the matter of an online challan of Rs 5500, it is too much now. Because people are under pressure not to cut my challan. So it is a non-essential burden on the general public

What does the Motor Vehicle Act (Amendment) 2019 says?

The Ministry of Roadways and Highways tabled the amendment bill in Lok Sabha two years ago with several changes to the 1988 Act. The key feature of the act is about granting of licenses and permits to motor vehicles, penalties, and violations for violating the standards of motor vehicles.

Also, the provision in the act increases the magnitude of the penalty levied. The maximum penalty has raised from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000 and is a significant leap. Also, it allows the governments to increase the fine by 10% every year. Similarly, the fines for not having High-Security Number Plate stickers can be increased annually.

So while traveling on roads in a two-wheeler, if you are a resident of Uttar Pradesh, please install a High-Security Number Plate to avoid huge fines. During the pandemic, we do not advise you to go out of the home until and unless it is necessary. When you’re going out, please carry the required documents to avoid the huge penalty and evoke strict actions.

#StayHomeStaySafe

It is a common scene in India.
