The network, comprising doctors, lawyers, social‑media influencers and other volunteers, has organised medical treatment, legal representation and mental‑health counselling for detainees and their families.

Scale of the crackdown and the need for assistance

During a two‑day period of protest, security forces detained more than 7,000 demonstrators at multiple locations throughout the capital. The police also prevented the crowd from reaching the planned gathering point at Jantar Mantar, deploying over 30,000 police and paramilitary personnel. Among those arrested were CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were taken into custody as soon as they arrived in the city. Several senior opposition figures, including former chief ministers Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee, Pinarayi Vijayan and Manik Sarkar, were also detained while attempting to join the demonstration.

The mass arrests triggered an urgent demand for support services. Families of the detained faced uncertainty about the health status of their loved ones, legal representation, and the logistics of returning home after release. In response, a volunteer who posted on social media announced that more than 130 individuals were now actively engaged in a coordinated aid effort.

Key volunteer initiatives

The coordinated response is organised under several named initiatives. The “Detainee Ghar Wapsi Yojana” focuses on arranging transport and essential supplies for individuals who are released, ensuring they can safely return to their homes. The Immediate Response First Aid Network, abbreviated as IRFAN, brings together medical professionals and first‑aid volunteers to treat injuries sustained during the protests. A mental‑health programme called PAUSE – an acronym for People Are Under Systemic Exhaustion – connects trauma‑affected protesters with therapists who can provide counselling and emotional support.

Beyond these core services, the volunteers have outlined plans for additional support structures. A scouting team will collect real‑time information from the ground, while a creator network aims to keep journalists and the broader public informed about developments at various detention sites. An information network is also being built to compile updates and disseminate them to families and other stakeholders who need accurate details.

Legal aid and broader coordination

A dedicated legal‑aid network is being assembled to link detainees and their relatives with lawyers willing to take on cases. The volunteer leading the effort issued a direct appeal: “The lawyers, we need you,” urging more legal professionals to join the cause. To streamline operations, the group intends to establish a central command centre and designate points of contact for each initiative, allowing for more efficient allocation of resources across the sprawling Delhi‑NCR region.

According to the volunteer, the network’s reach has already expanded beyond the original protest sites. As authorities transferred detainees to various locations—including stadiums and hospitals—the volunteers have adapted their logistics to ensure assistance is available wherever protesters are held. The commitment expressed was, “We are going to be more efficient so that wherever you are, we are there.”

Individual contributions and the role of social media

In addition to the organised groups, individual volunteers have used social platforms to offer help. One user, identifying as a doctor, announced availability near Gurdwara Bangla Sahib to provide medical care to injured protesters. Other volunteers and legal practitioners have shared contact details publicly, facilitating direct communication with families seeking assistance.

Instagram has emerged as a central hub for coordinating these efforts, with volunteers posting appeals, updates and resource lists. The platform’s visual and messaging capabilities have allowed the volunteer network to amplify calls for medical supplies, legal counsel and transportation, reaching a wide audience quickly.

The combined actions of organized initiatives and individual contributors illustrate a rapid civil‑society response to a large‑scale law‑enforcement operation. By pooling expertise in health, law and mental‑wellbeing, the volunteers aim to mitigate the immediate hardships faced by detainees and to uphold the rights of those exercising political expression.

The CJP protest, along with allied opposition parties, is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Election Commission’s functioning and the handling of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. While the political dispute continues, the volunteer network’s activities underscore a parallel struggle to protect the welfare of those caught in the cross‑fire of the demonstration and the state’s security response.

As the situation evolves, the volunteer coalition remains poised to adapt its services, emphasizing a commitment to reach every detained individual and their families across the capital region.

A volunteer coalition of doctors, lawyers and activists has mobilised to deliver medical, legal and mental‑health support to thousands detained during the CJP agitation in Delhi.

[299
2840,388,2868,2869,2867
post-2610","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-cjp-protest","tag-delhi","tag-legal-aid","tag-medical-assistance","tag-volunteer-network","entry
["GET
