With the five‑match T20 International series level at two wins each, Sammy’s comments focused less on the outcome of the final match and more on the strides the Caribbean team has made during the tour of India.

Historical context and batting power

Sammy noted that this is “the first time we’ve won more than two games on Indian soil in 20 years,” underscoring a milestone that reflects a gradual improvement in the side’s overseas performance. He added that, for West Indies, “success is progress,” especially given the challenges of competing against the world’s defending champions.

The batting unit has taken full advantage of the series’ batting‑friendly pitches. In each of the first four T20Is, West Indies out‑sixed India, accumulating 57 sixes compared with India’s 41. The aggressive approach has been complemented by a remarkably low consumption of dot balls across both the ODI and T20I legs of the tour, setting a record‑low benchmark for a series of this length.

Bowling after the Powerplay: the decisive factor

While power‑hitting has drawn headlines, Sammy emphasized that the real differentiator has been West Indies’ ability to bowl effectively after the Powerplay. “I think the clear plans that we’ve had, bowling to them, all the games, we’ve been able to pull it back after the Powerplay,” he said, highlighting the precision of field placements and execution as key to staying competitive.

The strategy centers on curbing India’s momentum once the opening six‑over spell ends. In the third T20I in Indore, India were restricted to 136 for 9 at an economy of 9.71 runs per over, well below the required rate. In the fourth T20I in Hyderabad, West Indies kept India to 143 for 7 at 10.59 runs per over, again under the 11.78‑run target set after the Powerplay. Sammy pointed out that in those two matches, West Indies claimed ten wickets, a notable achievement on pitches that have offered little assistance to bowlers.

Sammy also stressed the importance of sequencing deliveries to force the opposition into less favourable scoring zones. He explained that bowlers must vary wide yorkers, slower balls and bouncers to find the “spot on the wicket versus the batsman that is more challenging to get runs.” By doing so, West Indies aim to make batsmen hit the deliveries they execute, rather than the other way around.

Roston Chase leads the middle‑overs charge

Off‑spinner Roston Chase has emerged as a pivotal figure in the middle overs. He is joint‑highest wicket‑taker in the series with six scalps, four of which came between overs seven and fifteen, where he posted an economy of 6.80 runs per over. Sammy praised Chase, calling him “the best bowler in the series so far” and noting that his ability to apply sustained pressure eases the workload for the rest of the attack.

Chase’s impact extends beyond the Powerplay; he has been effective both inside and outside that phase, limiting damage and creating opportunities for wickets. Sammy acknowledged that while results may not always be immediate, the consistent pressure generated by Chase often leads to breakthroughs later in the innings.

Looking ahead to the final showdown

Should West Indies secure another strong performance at the Chinnaswamy on Saturday, it would cap a tour that Sammy describes as “productive.” He believes the significance of the series goes beyond the scoreboard. “The fact that we’ve made cricket really competitive is good for viewership. People in the Caribbean, once West Indies is doing well, it lightens the mood of every single person,” he said.

Sammy concluded with optimism, hoping that the final match will allow West Indies to “bring the curtains down on an excellent tour of India and an excellent series.” The emphasis remains on the progress made—particularly the disciplined post‑Powerplay bowling—rather than solely on lifting the trophy.

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy highlighted the importance of limiting India’s Powerplay momentum and praised post‑Powerplay bowling as the key to the series tied 2‑2 in Bengaluru.

[299
3037,3006,216,2864,2165,2423
post-2748","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-bowling-strategy","tag-daren-sammy","tag-india","tag-roston-chase","tag-t20-series","tag-west-indies","entry
["GET
