He said wars are no longer fought with arms alone and that a nation’s economy can be crippled by cyber‑criminals and cyber‑terrorists, underscoring the need for robust digital defences for India’s banking system.

Inaugurating the RBI data hub and training institute

During the ceremony, Modi highlighted that the two facilities – the RBI data centre and the Cybersecurity Training Institute – are intended to bolster the security and resilience of the country’s banking infrastructure. He said the changing nature of cyber threats demands modern infrastructure, stronger computing systems and a skilled workforce capable of responding to sophisticated attacks.

Modi noted that the new data centre will provide a secure, high‑capacity platform for the central bank’s operations, while the training institute will develop a pipeline of professionals equipped with the expertise needed to safeguard financial networks. Both are positioned as critical components of a broader strategy to keep India’s banking ecosystem safe from malicious actors.

Modernising India’s financial architecture

The prime minister linked the inauguration to a larger shift in governance, describing it as a move toward a “pro‑people, proactive good‑governance model.” He argued that outdated systems, training methods and tools cannot meet emerging challenges, and that modernising the digital backbone of banking is essential for national security.

Modi recalled that more than half of India’s population remained outside the formal banking ecosystem until 2014, despite the nationalisation of banks in the 1960s and 1970s. He credited the current government’s push for digital banking with expanding access, citing the creation of nearly 59‑60 crore Jan Dhan accounts that have helped direct government assistance straight to beneficiaries.

He contrasted past inefficiencies with present achievements, recalling a former prime minister’s observation that only 15 paise of a rupee sent from Delhi reached the intended recipient. Modi said that today the full rupee reaches the beneficiary’s bank account, illustrating the progress made through digital channels.

Looking ahead, Modi said the coming decade will focus on making banking more efficient and reliable, building on the inclusion gains of the previous ten years. He positioned the new RBI facilities as foundational to that next phase, ensuring that the financial system can withstand both conventional and cyber‑based threats.

Broader governance and regional development

Beyond the financial sector, Modi used the event to address disparities between urban centres and smaller towns. He observed that while major cities have seen the development of large hospitals, airports and other institutions since independence, many remote areas continue to lack basic facilities and connectivity.

He asserted that the government is working to change this imbalance by expanding expressways, medical colleges, healthcare facilities and digital connectivity to smaller towns and villages. In this context, he highlighted Odisha’s emerging role as a growth engine for a developed India, noting that the state’s economy is increasingly driven by technology alongside its traditional mineral resources.

“Odisha is poised to write a new chapter in its future, moving from mines to microchips,” Modi said, adding that investments in data centres and advanced computing are expected to create new opportunities for the state’s youth.

The prime minister also seized the occasion to criticize the previous Congress regime, accusing it of “phone banking” in which large sums of money were allegedly extended over the telephone to a select group of individuals close to Congress leaders. He suggested that such practices undermined the integrity of the banking system and highlighted the current government’s emphasis on transparency and digital processes.

In summarising the day’s announcements, Modi stressed that safeguarding the nation’s economic engine requires a blend of cutting‑edge technology, skilled human resources and a governance approach that reaches every citizen, from metropolitan hubs to the most remote villages.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Reserve Bank of India’s new data centre and a cybersecurity training institute in Bhubaneswar, warning that modern wars target economies and urging stronger digital defenses.

[299
2069,1411,216,219,377
post-2945","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-banking","tag-cybersecurity","tag-india","tag-narendra-modi","tag-odisha","entry
["GET
