This mission, dubbed as \u2018Operation Keller\u2019 was initiated in the early hours of May 13, as a measured, calibrated and decisive answer to curb the alleged attempt of LeT militants in causing damage to the valley.<\/p>\n<p>Operation Keller, coined after the territorial forest area, is the home to J&amp;K natives, and a breach in their privacy and livelihood is not what the Indian government stands for. There was credible intelligence information communicated by the Rashtriya Rifles, a specialized insurgency unit of the Indian army. The contingent shared accurate and specific insight regarding the presence and continual movement of heavily armed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants in the Shoekal Kellar region, which had to be negated. This comes as a strong reminder of the incessant security challenges being faced in the valley.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as the sensitive details were confirmed, Indian army without any delay proactively launched the counter mission to curtail the unwanted activity and movement of rebellious trespassers of the valley, through a search and destroy approach. The local police, and army forces cleared the identified zone and ensured no civilians were threatened in this attack. As the team advanced, the militants realized they had been surrounded. They opened fire, triggering a fierce gunfight. Just a few days ago, India had conducted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/05\/07\/operation-sindoor-25-minutes-of-indian-hellfire\/\">Operation Sindoor<\/a> in the wee hours of May 7, an airstrike mission that targeted airbase and terror camps across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This mission was in retaliation for the killing of 26 innocent civilians\u2019 people in Pahalgam on April 22, which was the brainchild of two globally disowned and shamed terrorists\u2019 organisations \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/05\/08\/pakistan-retaliation-in-vain-india-neutralizes-the-air-defence-system\/\">LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammed.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>That operation was followed by provocative shelling from the Pakistan armed forces, which went on for almost 5 days until the two sides agreed for a temporary ceasefire on the situation. The Shopian district along with the Keller region in particular has long been a hotspot for militant activity. Frequent militant encounters and unceasing insurgency have kept the border security forces on high alert for quite some time now.<\/p>\n<p>While the immediate threat was neutralised by the Indian forces in a befitting response, the operation did not end with the gunfight alone. Security personnel were deployed to continuously sanitize the valley area, search for hidden weaponry and ammunitions, caches and ensure zero active militancy activity being carried out in any part of the torrential area. With the latest information available so far, the forces and military intelligence units are on the lookout to draw out details on the identity of the deceased terrorists.
