The model may be price around $56000 approximately.<\/p>\n<p>As a part of its entry into India, the EV maker had stepped up hiring in the last few months and in the past was scouting for showroom sites in Mumbai and New Delhi. Electric vehicle maker Tesla inched closer to start its sales in India, as it said on Friday, July 11, 2025, it would be opening its first showroom at the financial hub of Mumbai on July 15, dubbed as an \u2018<em>experience centre<\/em>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>According to a Bloomberg report from last month, Tesla&#8217;s first set of cars have arrived in India which will be\u00a0Model Y\u00a0rear-wheel drive SUVs shipped from company&#8217;s China factory. The report also stated that Tesla has imported Supercharger components, car accessories, merchandise and other spare parts from <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/in\/2025\/07\/09\/us-student-visa-season-off-to-a-slow-start-for-indians-lowest-since-pandemic\/\">US<\/a>, China and the Netherlands.\u00a0After Mumbai,\u00a0Tesla\u00a0also reportedly has concrete plans to open a new showroom in New Delhi by 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Amidst the ongoing tussle between Elon Musk and <a href=\"https:\/\/newsraise.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/09\/trump-governments-mass-layoff-plan-begins-us-supreme-court-approves\/\">President Donald Trump<\/a>, Tesla looks all set to create a stir in India\u2019s automobile industry, with five variants of Model-Y version having already arrived in Mumbai. The cars were declared approximately around 2.77 million rupees (US$ 3,988) and attracted more than 2.1 million rupees in import duties \u2014 a levy that\u2019s been consistent with India\u2019s 70 per cent tariff on fully-built imported cars under $40,000 plus surcharges, the documents show.<\/p>\n<p>The model is expected to go on sale for more than <strong><em>USD 56,000<\/em><\/strong> before taxes and insurance, though Tesla will take the final call on price based on its margin and positioning strategy, according to people familiar with the plans. This compares with an ex-showroom price of $44,990 for the same model variant in the US, which sells for around $37,490 once the legible tax credits are applied.<\/p>\n<p>Such a premium price for the cars in India may prove to be a major hurdle in Tesla\u2019s plans, as the automaking giant will need to convince the conscious value-driven consumers to expand their wallets. EVs account for just over 5 per cent of new passenger vehicle sales in India, but premium cars still represent less than 2 per cent of the market, as per the data indicated by Indian government\u2019s vehicle registration portal.
