Report Says that Apple Asked TV Show Makers to Stop Depicting China Critically

It’s no secret that Apple has been heavily investing on TV shows that would become part of the original Apple TV Plus portfolio. According to the latest reports, however, the tech giant wanted these shows to be quite strategic as well. A latest report says that Apple had asked TV show makers to stop depicting China critically in these shows. The report was published by BuzzFeed News, but the company has declined to comment on the issue. It does not come as a surprise that Apple wants to take some precaution, as losing its reputation in a country like China would have serious financial implications.

Apple has not been completely apolitical when it comes to matters concerning China. Last week, Apple had removed an app that was used by Hong Kong protestors from the official app store. The removal, which was allegedly because of the ‘dangerous’ nature of the app, was even defended by Apple CEO, Tim Cook. In spite of all these, the company wants to ensure unparalleled access to one of the biggest markets in the world. It should be noted that, by not depicting China critically, Apple could be in the good books of the government.

Considering that many service-based products were shut down in China after their debut, Apple would want to keep every side checked if it wants to keep Apple TV Plus running in the market. Keeping tight regulation on content would be a way to do this, along with other practices regarding politics. It should be noted that Apple has faced heavy criticism from Hong Kong protestors at this point and being the good buys from the government’s perspective will help the company in not only rolling out the services but also dealing with the upcoming trade-war impacts.
