The NYC Police received multiple reports of an active shooter inside 345 Park Avenue, a building that houses the NFL headquarters and offices of major financial firms. In addition, four victims were also being treated for minor injuries they received while trying to flee the scene.

What was Shane Tamura’s Killing for?

As per the available news reports, the suspect reached the area and immediately opened fire at an NYPD officer who was working a paid detail at the building, which allows private companies to hire officers for security, according to Tisch. He then shot a woman who “took cover behind a pillar and proceeds through the lobby, spraying it with gunfire,” the police commissioner said.

The suspect also shot a security guard who was behind a security desk and another man in the lobby, Tisch added. The gunman then entered the building’s elevator and went up to the 33rd floor, where the building’s owner, Rudin Management, is located.

The alleged gunman was identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, of Nevada, who also died during the shooting due to a self-inflicted wound. Though the exact motive for this disturbing fiasco remains under investigation, to understand why the suspect targeted the commercial building. The now deceased and dreaded gunman was originally from Hawaii and held a concealed firearms permit. It was issued to him on June 14, 2022, and was valid for a period of five years. Tamura also carried an expired private investigator license.

The local police have recovered Tamura’s rifle, a Palmetto State Armory AR-15 assault rifle, which was smeared with blood. A vehicle with Nevada plates registered to Tamura was found at the scene, which was searched by bomb squad and found to be clear of explosives.

The initial investigation shows Tamura’s car travelled across country through Colorado on July 26 and Columbia New Jersey as recently as 4:24 pm on Monday. The vehicle entered New York city shortly after. Tamura has a documented history of mental health issues, said the New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch during a press briefing.
