US Government Launches “US Tech Force” to Attract AI and Technology Talent
The United States government, led by Donald Trump has unveiled a new early-career recruitment and talent development initiative aimed at strengthening its technology and artificial intelligence (AI) workforce. The program, named US Tech Force, is part of the Trump administration’s broader push to modernize federal systems and maintain America’s competitive edge in the global technology landscape.
Spearheaded by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the initiative seeks to close a growing skills gap across federal agencies by bringing in young professionals with expertise in software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, and project management.
Addressing the Federal Technology Talent Gap
According to OPM Director Scott Kupor, the federal government faces a significant shortage of early-career technical professionals at a time when demand for AI expertise is surging worldwide.

Structure of the US Tech Force Program

Throughout the program, participants will benefit from mentorship and career guidance provided by around 25 major technology firms. Companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe, Meta, and xAI have already committed to supporting the initiative.
High-Impact Projects Across Federal Agencies
Members of the US Tech Force will work directly within agencies on projects aligned with national priorities. These include integrating advanced AI capabilities into defense systems at the Department of Defense, enhancing digital platforms at the Internal Revenue Service, and using artificial intelligence to improve diplomatic and intelligence operations at the State Department.
The initiative aligns with the administration’s broader AI strategy, including a recently signed AI action plan focused on expanding US AI infrastructure and reducing regulatory barriers to innovation.
Competitive Salaries and Career Opportunities
To remain attractive in a highly competitive job market, the program will offer salaries ranging from approximately $130,000 – $195,000. Kupor emphasized that compensation, combined with exposure to challenging real-world problems, makes the program a strong career accelerator.
At the end of the two-year term, participants will take part in a dedicated job fair, providing access to opportunities in both the public and private sectors. By launching the US Tech Force, the federal government aims to position itself as a destination for ambitious technology professionals seeking meaningful work, hands-on experience, and long-term career growth – whether inside or outside government service.
