According to the Immigration and Nationality Act, any non-citizen who is 18 years of age or older must always have their alien registration document or receipt card (i.e., Green Card) in their possession. Noncompliance with this rule is considered a misdemeanor, potentially leading to a penalty, detainment, or even prosecution if discovered by federal law enforcement<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Contrary to public assumption, this is not a new policy.
