Violent clashes between police and members of the radical Islamist group Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan<\/a> (TLP)<\/strong> rocked the city of Lahore on October 9, leaving dozens injured ahead of the party\u2019s planned \u2018<\/strong>Labbaik Ya Aqsa Million March\u2019 in Islamabad.<\/p>\n

Pakistan Suspends Mobile and Internet Services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Amid rising tensions, the Pakistani government has suspended mobile and internet services<\/a> in Islamabad and Rawalpindi starting midnight Friday, citing security concerns. The move, approved by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, follows the Ministry of Interior\u2019s directive to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to cut off communication networks in the twin cities for an indefinite period.<\/p>\n

Authorities have also sealed all major entry and exit routes to Islamabad<\/strong>, with the Red Zone completely barricaded. Only authorized personnel are being allowed entry via Margalla Road, as the federal capital braces for potential unrest linked to the TLP\u2019s mass protest.<\/p>\n

Punjab Imposes Section 144<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province for 10 days, prohibiting all forms of protests, rallies, and public gatherings. The emergency measure aims to prevent further violence following overnight clashes in Lahore.<\/p>\n

According to a notification issued by the provincial home department, gatherings of four or more people in public spaces are now banned. However, the order exempts religious prayers, weddings, funerals, offices, and court premises. Authorities have also enforced a ban on displaying weapons and the use of loudspeakers throughout Punjab.<\/p>\n

Clashes erupted after the Punjab police raided the TLP headquarters at Yateem Khana, Lahore, in an attempt to arrest the party\u2019s chief, Saad Hussain Rizvi. According to police officials, TLP supporters attacked officers with stones and iron rods, leading to hours of confrontation.<\/a> as per news authorities, the leader Rizvi managed to evade his arrest, and additional police personnel were then deployed around the group\u2019s headquarters to prevent any further violence.<\/p>\n

TLP Condemns Crackdown, Calls for Solidarity with Palestine<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The TLP strongly condemned the police crackdown, calling it an attempt by the Punjab government under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to suppress peaceful protesters. In a statement, a TLP spokesperson said the government\u2019s ‘disgraceful tactics’ aimed at stopping the \u2018Labbaik Ya Aqsa Million March\u2019 were a violation of democratic rights.<\/p>\n

With tensions escalating, law enforcement agencies across Pakistan<\/a> have been placed on high alert. Security checkpoints have been reinforced, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation in major cities to prevent any spillover of violence.<\/p>\n
