Speaking to CBS News, Trump noted that Beijing is \u201calways watching\u201d the United States<\/a>, underscoring the tense yet intertwined nature of US-China relations<\/a>.\u00a0The remarks come just days after the American leader urged for a trade truce with China, signaling a desire to ease the ongoing trade and technology standoff. However, Trump\u2019s candid acknowledgment of the US as a strategic rival<\/strong> reflects the complex and often contradictory dynamics between the two superpowers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re a threat to them, too. Many of the things that you say, we do to them<\/em>,\u201d Trump said during the interview.\u00a0Trump also suggested that despite the rivalry, cooperation remains possible. \u201cI think we get along very well, and I think we can be bigger, better, and stronger by working with them as opposed to just knocking them out<\/em>,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

His comments come amidst heightened tensions following US intelligence reports accusing China<\/a> of infiltrating parts of America\u2019s power grid and water systems<\/strong>, along with allegations of intellectual property theft and large-scale data breaches targeting American citizens and businesses.<\/p>\n

Concerns Over China\u2019s Expanding Nuclear Arsenal<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Trump also expressed concern about China\u2019s rapidly growing nuclear capabilities<\/a>, warning that Beijing could reach nuclear parity with Washington and Moscow within five years.<\/p>\n

The US President revealed<\/a> that he had discussed nuclear disarmament with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, adding: \u201cDenuclearization\u2019s a very big thing. We have enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world 150 times. Russia has a lot, and China will have a lot. They have some. They have quite a bit<\/em>.\u201d Justifying his recent order to restart US nuclear weapons testing, Trump claimed that Russia and China are secretly testing their nukes, saying, \u201cYou just don\u2019t know about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Republican leader also addressed China\u2019s economic leverage<\/a>, particularly its control over rare earth minerals<\/strong>, which are critical to industries ranging from electronics to defence manufacturing.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re doing very well against China<\/em>,\u201d Trump said. \u201cAnd all of a sudden, they said, \u2018We have to fight back.\u2019 The power they have is rare earths because they\u2019ve been accumulating and managing them for 25-30 years.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

He acknowledged that the US had retaliated by restricting Boeing aircraft parts and imposing tariffs, which became the big thing in the trade battle. \u201cThey use rare earths against us, and we used other things against them,\u201d he said. \u201cWe were both acting maybe a little bit irrationally<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Global observers warn that Trump\u2019s decision to resume nuclear testing<\/a> could unravel decades of arms control progress and fuel tensions between major powers. Still, Trump defended his stance, insisting that the U<\/strong>nited States must not fall behind. \u201cAmerica cannot be the only power not conducting tests while others expand their arsenals<\/em>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
