He will join the bullpen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wood, 29, rejoined the Dodgers on a one-year contract after a spending most of last season with the Cincinnati Reds on the injured list battling a back injury. He returned to Los Angeles \u2014 where he had spent the previous 3\u00bd seasons \u2014 healthy but is now dealing with something else.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wood was shelved after throwing 69 pitches in three innings in his 2020 debut Saturday against the San Francisco Giants. Wood battled command trouble from the onset. He threw 32 of those pitches in the second inning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the game, Wood said he felt fine and had found a rhythm in the third inning before he was removed. But Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that Wood, who didn\u2019t travel with the team to Houston, had been dealing with shoulder discomfort for \u201ca couple of weeks.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roberts dismissed the notion that the nearly four-month shutdown and the season\u2019s quick ramp-up \u2014 a three-week training camp \u2014 were factors in Wood\u2019s injury.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Dodgers announced they placed Alex Wood on the injured list and recalled Josh Sborz. <\/p>\n<p>The starting rotation takes another hit.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jorge Castillo (@jorgecastillo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jorgecastillo\/status\/1288157672014061568?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 28, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAfter that start, [he] didn\u2019t feel great,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cAnd, also, we were fortunate enough to information on his arm slot dropping a little bit and that\u2019s kind of a notifier. So, we just felt that to just kind of be smart, get a scan, which we did, that was clear&#8230;Don\u2019t really have a timetable right now but I think for us I expect him back soon.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clayton Kershaw traveled with the team to Texas and threw a bullpen session Tuesday. If Kershaw isn\u2019t the choice, the Dodgers could turn to Dennis Santana or stitch together a bullpen game. Other options in the team\u2019s player pool at their alternate training site include Tony Gonsolin, Josiah Gray, and Mitch White.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roberts said Julio Ur\u00edas, who would be on regular rest Friday, isn\u2019t a possibility because the team wants to give him additional rest.
