Pokémon GO Fest 2026 adds new Mega Mewtwo moves and Adventure Effects

Niantic’s Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale rolls out a substantial update to Mega Evolution, granting eligible Mega‑Evolved Pokémon an extra Charged Attack and adding exclusive Adventure Effects for Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y. The changes arrive alongside scheduled Mega Raid appearances for both forms of Mewtwo on September 5 and September 6.

New Moves for Mega Mewtwo X and Y

During the event, Mega Mewtwo X will learn a new Charged Attack called Dynamic Punch+. The move boosts damage against Mega‑Evolved opponents in Mega Raids and Super Mega Raids, and in the latter it lets trainers break two shields at once instead of the usual single shield. Mega Mewtwo Y receives Future Sight+, a Charged Attack that reveals the appraisal tier of encountered Pokémon, highlighting those that will appraise as three‑star or higher with a visual glow.

Both moves are added to the Pokémon’s repertoire regardless of its Mega Level, and their power scales upward as the Mega Level increases. The extra Charged Attack applies only in Raid battles; it cannot be used in Gym defense battles.

Adventure Effects and Activation Costs

In addition to the new moves, each Mega Mewtwo form gains a unique Adventure Effect that can be activated even when the Pokémon is not Mega‑Evolved. Mega Mewtwo X’s Dynamic Punch+ effect costs five Mewtwo Candy and 75 units of Mewtwo Mega Energy X, lasts ten minutes, and applies a 1.15× damage multiplier in Mega Raids while granting an extra shield break in Super Mega Raids.

Mega Mewtwo Y’s Future Sight+ effect requires five Mewtwo Candy and 75 units of Mewtwo Mega Energy Y, lasts twelve minutes, and makes three‑star and four‑star appraisal tiers visible on encountered Pokémon.

Broader Mega Evolution Updates

The Mega Finale also expands the Mega Evolution system for all Pokémon capable of reaching Super Max Level. Starting now, any Mega‑Evolved Pokémon will know an additional Charged Attack, with the attack’s strength increasing alongside the Pokémon’s Mega Level. Trainers can earn the necessary Mega Energy by defeating Mega‑Evolved foes in Mega Raid battles or, occasionally, by walking with a Buddy Pokémon that has previously been Mega‑Evolved.

Collecting Mega Energy remains form‑specific; for example, Mega‑Evolving Charizard into Mega Charizard X requires Charizard Mega Energy X, while Mega Charizard Y would need Mega Energy Y. Once a Pokémon has been Mega‑Evolved at least once, it can be Mega‑Evolved again without spending additional Mega Energy, and its Mega Level can be raised either by repeated Mega Evolutions or by spending large amounts of Mega Energy for instant level‑ups.

Trainers who capture Pokémon from Mega Raids during the Mega Finale may notice a special background inspired by Mega Evolution on the Pokémon’s summary page. Mega‑Evolving eligible Pokémon will transform that background while they remain Mega‑Evolved.

The event’s schedule places Mega Mewtwo X in Mega Raids on Saturday, September 5, and Mega Mewtwo Y on Sunday, September 6. These appearances give players a timely opportunity to test the new Dynamic Punch+ and Future Sight+ moves, as well as their corresponding Adventure Effects, before the broader rollout of extra Charged Attacks for all Mega‑eligible Pokémon.
