In a shocking piece of news received on Friday, July 18, more than 20 schools located in the NCT (National Capital Territory) region of Delhi received bomb threats via email, thereby triggering a swift response from Delhi Police and fire services. For the uninitiated, this is the fourth such day in the ongoing week when schools in the capital have received bomb threats.
The threat email contained a long note, sent from any anonymous source and had rather disturbing and obscene language, which went as, “I will erase every last one of you from this world. Not a single soul will survive. I will gladly laugh when I will watch the news, only to see the parents show up at the school and to be greeted by the cold, dismembered bodies of their children,” the mail read.
The unanticipated threat email was marked to 23 schools in total and claimed that several explosives had been placed in classrooms across each of the institutions. According to Delhi Police, the threat received by Richmond Global School included appalling and violent language, aimed at insinuating fear and chaos in the campus. The sender also made references to mental health struggles, expressing anger at the medical system and vowing to end their own life.
Hoax Calls have created Panic
Friday’s fresh round of bomb threats follows a string of similar incidents reported earlier this week. At least seven schools across Delhi had received bomb threat emails on Wednesday, July 16 — marking the third consecutive day of such hoax messages in the national capital. This has created a pressure situation amongst the parents, children and school management authorities – who are unable to carry our regular work and struggling with the fear and panic as a result of such emails.
Search Operations Underway
The bomb disposal teams and search squads have been conducting checks at the affected schools, since the intimations were sent out by each of the institutions. According to an official familiar with the matter, the schools that received the bomb threat email include St. Xavier’s School in Civil Lines, Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, Abhinav Public School in Rohini, and The Sovereign School in Rohini. The names of additional affected institutions are still being verified.
The latest bomb threat came just days after similar warnings were emailed to nearly ten Delhi schools and St Stephen’s college across the national capital earlier this week. In each case, the emails led to school closures, evacuations, and large-scale searches, although no explosives have been found so far.
