Amidst the rising conflicts due to the imposed trade tariff of 50% by the United States on Indian exports, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and flagged off ‘e-Vitara’, the first EV variant from the house of Maruti Suzuki.
As Suzuki’s first Made-in-India global strategic Battery Electric Vehicle, with an initiative to take large strides towards becoming ‘Aatmanirbhar’ in the field of green energy, PM Modi inaugurated the green mobility initiatives in Hansalpur, Gujarat on August 26. With this milestone, India will now serve as Suzuki’s global manufacturing hub for electric vehicles.
As part of the ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ campaign, the fleet of electric vehicles that will be manufactured in India will be exported to almost 100 countries henceforth. India has the power of democracy, the advantage of demography and a very large pool of skilled workforce, making it a win-win situation for every partner.
He further announced the commencement of Hybrid Battery Electrode manufacturing in the country, where the upcoming phase comprises of TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant being installed in the state of Gujarat. The plant, a JV (joint venture) among Toshiba, Denso and Suzuki – will boost domestic manufacturing and clean energy innovation. This development ensures that more than eighty percent of the battery value will now be manufactured within India.

Emphasizing that today also brings a new dimension to the friendship between India and Japan, the Prime Minister extended his heartfelt congratulations to all citizens of India, to Japan, and to Suzuki Motor Corporation. Expressing his heartfelt remembrance of the late Mr. Osamu Suzuki, the Prime Minister stated that the Government of India had the honour of conferring the Padma Vibhushan upon him. He remarked that he is pleased to witness the vast expansion of the vision Mr. Osamu Suzuki had envisioned for Maruti Suzuki India.
Affirming that clean energy and clean mobility represent the future of India, Shri Modi emphasized that through such efforts, India is rapidly emerging as a reliable hub for clean energy and clean mobility. In addition, as a country that faces the challenge of rare earth magnets in the auto industry, PM Modi announced the launch of ‘National Critical Mineral Mission’. Under this mission, over 1,200 exploratory campaigns will be conducted across various locations in India to identify critical minerals.
Emphasizing the need to continue advancing in all key sectors in the coming years, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that today’s efforts will elevate the foundation of a developed India by 2047. He concluded by affirming his belief that Japan will remain a trusted partner in achieving this goal.
