India’s annual festive shopping period began with unusually high activity on the country’s leading online marketplaces. Flipkart, Amazon, Myntra and Meesho all reported sharp jumps in order volumes, new‑customer sign‑ups and a pronounced contribution from smaller towns, indicating that value‑seeking shoppers are also upgrading to higher‑priced items across multiple categories.
Platform performance in the opening hour
Flipkart logged 6.3 million simultaneous users within a single minute of the launch of its 13th Big Billion Days event, while total sessions topped 287 million during the early‑access window. The retailer said that new customers rose 34 percent, and almost half of the traffic in the first hour originated from Tier‑3 towns and beyond, with non‑metro shoppers accounting for roughly 60 percent of overall demand.
Amazon described the start of its Great Indian Festival as the biggest in the history of the promotion. Product orders more than doubled compared with the same period a year earlier, and every pin code in the country placed at least one order. Premium Android smartphone sales jumped 70 percent year‑on‑year, and fashion transactions reached a level seven times higher than on a typical day.
Myntra’s Big Fashion Festival, which kicked off on October 8, saw demand multiply four‑fold over normal levels in its first 24 hours. More than half of the orders came from Tier‑2 and Tier‑3 cities, and the average order value exceeded that of the previous year’s opening day, signalling a tilt toward higher‑priced apparel and accessories.
Meesho’s Mega Blockbuster Sale reported a 75 percent increase in first‑day orders compared with the prior year, with the number of transacting customers up about 60 percent. Within the first 15 minutes of the sale, order submissions peaked at over 75 000 per minute.
Premium product demand across categories
Electronics, fashion, beauty and home‑goods dominated the early sales mix on all platforms. On Flipkart, large‑appliance purchases rose 30 percent in the opening hour and tablet sales jumped 73 percent, while beauty items grew 42 percent, driven largely by men’s grooming and personal‑care products.
Amazon highlighted strong interest in premium electronics and home upgrades, noting sharp increases in laptops, high‑end wearables and large appliances. Televisions of 55 inches or larger made up 65 percent of TV sales, and fashion sales again hit seven times the normal daily level, with footwear, denim and ethnic wear in particular high demand.
Myntra reported that men’s T‑shirts, jeans and sneakers, together with women’s tops and dresses, were among the most sought‑after items. The platform also saw heightened interest in occasion wear, beauty products and premium brands, especially in eastern states such as West Bengal, Assam and Bihar, where demand during the festival was seven times higher than usual ahead of Durga Puja.
Meesho’s data showed strong sales of sarees, kurta sets, children’s clothing, beauty products and household essentials. Orders on its branded marketplace, Meesho Mall, surged more than 200 percent year‑on‑year, and customers from Tier‑3 towns and smaller markets nearly tripled.
Rapid delivery gains momentum
Quick‑commerce services also experienced a lift as platforms extended ultra‑fast delivery beyond staple items. Flipkart Minutes recorded a 3.5‑fold rise in order volume over regular days during its launch phase, with new‑user registrations expanding eleven‑fold in the first hour. Premium electronics, grooming items and wearables were among the products delivered, including an iPhone 17 that reached a buyer in New Delhi within 3.4 minutes.
Myntra’s M‑Now service saw orders double on the first day of the Big Fashion Festival, reflecting shopper appetite for faster fulfilment during the holiday rush. Amazon reported that in more than 120 cities served by Amazon Now, half of all products were delivered within minutes of ordering.
Affordability remained a central theme throughout the sales surge. Flipkart noted that one in four mobile shoppers used an exchange option, while one in three opted for no‑cost EMI. Amazon indicated that half of its customers chose to shop using EMI financing.
The opening‑day figures underscore the expanding scale of India’s online festive market, with demand spilling over from metropolitan hubs into smaller cities and towns. Shoppers are simultaneously chasing discounts, financing offers and aspirational products, blending value‑driven purchases with premium upgrades across electronics, fashion, beauty and home categories.
