STDs Are All-time High in the US, Says CDC Report

The latest report from CDC has some negative news about the rate of Sexually Transmitted Diseases that are reported in the United States. This report states that the number of cases when it comes to diseases such as gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia have been increasing in the past five years. This means that every year, a considerably huge amount of cases is added to the list. The report was published last Tuesday and has been considered very important by experts in the field. The Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance Report will be focusing on this particular category.

“In 2018, a total of 35,063 cases of P&S syphilis were reported in the United States, yielding a rate of 10.8 cases per 100,000 population. This rate represents a 14.9% increase compared with 2017 (9.4 cases per 100,000 population), and a 71.4% increase compared with 2014 (6.3 cases per 100,000 population),” reads an important part of the report that talks about the increase of Syphilis cases in the United States. Although the numbers do vary when it comes to other STDs, the trend is quite common and the overall health status is under threat indeed. This is one of the reasons why the aforesaid report invites proper critical thought.

“Yet not that long ago, gonorrhea rates were at historic lows, syphilis was close to elimination, and we were able to point to advances in STD prevention. That progress has since unraveled. The number of reported syphilis cases is climbing after being largely on the decline since 1941, and gonorrhea rates are now increasing. Many young women continue to have undiagnosed chlamydial infections, putting them at risk for infertility,” reads another part of the report, which talks about the consistency the country has failed to achieve when it comes to treating these diseases and spreading awareness about the same.
