Anthropic announced Tuesday that its Claude Cowork AI platform is now accessible on mobile and web browsers, a significant expansion from its previous desktop-only availability.
The expanded access is initially rolling out to Max subscribers, with availability for users on other Claude plans expected in the coming weeks. Previously, Claude Cowork was exclusively accessible through dedicated desktop applications for macOS and Windows.
Cloud Processing and Cross-Device Access
A key development with the new launch is that Cowork sessions will now run in the cloud by default. This allows users to continue tasks across different devices or run them in the background, even when their laptop is closed. For users of the desktop app, an option to switch between cloud and local processing remains available.
This cloud-based approach also means that scheduled tasks can now run even if none of the user’s devices are online. Additionally, Claude can send notifications to a user’s phone when a task is ready for review or approval.
Desktop App Retains Full Experience
While mobile and web access broadens usability, Anthropic notes that the “full experience” for Claude Cowork, including features like local file access, will still be available on the desktop application.
In conjunction with the mobile and web launch, Anthropic is extending its doubled Cowork usage limits through August 5th.
