CBSE allows 10th students to enjoy as they scrap board exams and postpone for 12th

The pandemic hasn’t done well for anyone. The common man’s struggle is unprecedented. Before the pandemic stuck in March 2020, there were no issues with the boards. They were going as planned. Though the students were not that affectionate towards the exam, they used to write the exam without any hesitation. However, the relatives used to enjoy the failure of their family kids and compare them. But, the Central Board for Secondary Education has decided to cast a spell of doom on their happiness. The board has decided to scrap the board exams for the 10th standard whereas they also decided to postpone the exams for the 12th standard. The students will sigh a breath of relief after the new announcement from the Central Board for Secondary Education.

The cancellation of board exams comes at a time when the pandemic has struck hard. After winning the first wave, people let their guards down and started to enjoy life like they were in the pre-COVID period. However, the second has agonizingly terrorized the people. The daily cases are breaching the 2 lakh mark whereas the states are running out of beds and oxygen. The situation is quite dire and the Government of India decided not to afford any risks amidst the pandemic. The Government of India sat with the Central Board for Secondary Education and decided to scrap the exams. Keeping the future of 12th standard students in mind, the board decided to postpone the exams for them.

It is tough to classify the postponement of exams as boon or bane. The premier institutes like IISc, IITs, and Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) consider the track record before they admit the students for higher education. The cancellation for the 10th standard might be a bane in this situation. However, we have to keep the prominent Hindi proverb in mind. “Jaan hain to Jahaan hai” in this situation. The backbenchers will be happy about the situation whereas the toppers will be quite sad. The students would have studied from the word go in the new academic year.

How the 10th standard students will be assessed?

The 10th standard students will be now assessed and passed on the basis of their previous track record as well as their performance in the ongoing academic year. As they used to do for the IXth standard students, an internal assessment will be conducted for the students of 10th standard. However, it will not be as tough as the final exams that used to instill fear in the students.

There will be some students who will not be happy with their allotted marks based on the internal assessment. Those students can sit for an external and private exam conducted by the authorities of the Central Board for Secondary Education. The exams will be held after assessing and analyzing the pandemic situation.

What is the situation for the 12th standard board students?

Though the Government has not decided to cancel the exams, they have given the time for students to study. The CBSE board told that the students will be told 15 days prior to the exam and the exams will not be held before June 1st. However, this will increase the burden on students who are appearing for Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and NEET.

On the other hand, the students of ICSE are also happy. The ICSE board has decided not to conduct the exams amidst the pandemic and postpone the exams for a while until the second wave of the pandemic gets over. ISCE have not canceled the exams for both 10th and 12th but they have decided to postpone the exams. We request everyone to stay at home until and unless there is an emergency.
