Beware!! Think thrice before you open unknown links

Technology has proved to be a great boon for society with it connecting people from different parts of the world. Technology has been advantageous by facilitating in production, manufacturing, banking, services industry and many other fields too but it has been disadvantageous to many people in the matters of privacy of their data. Presently, for the past year, the whole world has gone digital and all kinds of dealings happen online itself. But this online dealing has given rise to more and more fraudsters, scammers, and criminals committing crimes through digital mode.

Nowadays since schools are online, college classes and activities are online and most of the offices have become online, we keep receiving messages on WhatsApp and SMS on our phone. But now onwards you need to be careful since the outbreak of the news of people receiving some kind of anonymous messages in the UK, Spain, Poland, and few other countries.

Amidst the pandemic, the people are trying to earn an extra income that could help their cause. However, people who want to earn money forget that they are hunters in the market and can really damage them financially. People receive the aforementioned messages on Whatsapp stating they earn money easily. People fall easily into these kinds of traps. But nobody knows what happens next?

What happens when you open unsolicited messages?

Be careful before opening messages you receive from anonymous numbers and agencies. People are going pauper by clicking on a fake link being sent through WhatsApp or SMS. One such link is being said that people received messages providing a link saying it will track the delivery or for downloading something. In the UK, people received such messages which claim that it belongs to some delivery company. On clicking this link, users are asked to install an app related to tracking their delivery. BEWARE! This is all fake. Such apps do not help you in tracking any kind of deliveries but instead steals all your personal information from your Android smartphone.

The UK, Spain, Germany, and Poland have become victims of such frauds wherein users lost their hard-earned money and other private information. Accordingly, the UK’s National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) has issued guidelines regarding the safety and security of the users. Network provider companies like Vodafone have also warned people about such fraud-related messages. Do not click on any unknown link unless you are aware of it.

FluBot is the name of the app claiming itself to be a package delivery company app saying it helps to track your package delivery. The fake link redirects you to a website directing you to a third-party website and asks you to download this app named FluBot. This app steals all your personal and most important information such as your passwords, your bank details, and contact list from your smartphone which is really a very risky and dangerous thing that can ever happen to a smartphone user. Many people have become victims of such fake messages and links and have even lost their money.

So keep in mind, not to open any kind of anonymous messages or links unless verified that it’s safe and meant for your purpose. Keep changing your passwords and try not to keep too much personal data and details in your smartphone. Keep up with privacy settings on all social media accounts. Refrain from using social media sites on public WiFi networks. If in case, at any point in time you feel that you are about to face any frauds or you find that the amount from your bank account has been debited without your knowledge then make sure you inform your financial institutions about supposed account suspension and closings.
