PM Modi Slams RJD-Congress Over Insult to Late Mother During Bihar Yatra

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly condemned the abusive remarks made against his late mother during the Opposition’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga, Bihar, on August 27, 2025.

Speaking for the first time on the controversy, Modi termed the incident not just a personal insult but an affront to the dignity of women across India. On Tuesday, September 2, while virtually inaugurating the Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited, a cooperative initiative for self-help groups in Bihar, the Prime Minister chose to address the matter in front of women beneficiaries. “I know the mothers, daughters, and sisters of Bihar are as pained at these insults as I am,” Modi said, highlighting his emotional connect with the women of the state.

Insult to Mother India

Referring to the abusive comments hurled during the march, the Prime Minister drew a sharp parallel, stating that those who can insult his late mother are the same people who do not hesitate to disrespect Mother India. “Hurling abuses at my mother is nothing for those who abuse the mother of the nation. Such behavior deserves punishment,” he asserted.

The PM Modi recalled the life of his mother, Heeraben Modi, who passed away last year at the age of 100. He emphasized that she never had any political role but deeply influenced his life and values. “Every mother desires that her son should serve her. But my mother gave me the strength to serve the nation instead. Such a noble soul, who had nothing to do with politics, was targeted with invectives,” he said.

Attack on Opposition

Modi accused the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) of crossing all limits of political decency. He said that while he had faced criticism in his five decades of public life, targeting his mother was ‘traumatic and hurtful’, despite her passing away. The Prime Minister added that the Opposition’s words reflect a pattern of demeaning women.

Further attacking the RJD, an alliance partner of the Congress, he said that the party headed by Lalu Prasad wants to take revenge from women as it was because of them that the regional party’s government was ousted from power in Bihar. He pointed to earlier instances, accusing Congress leaders of insulting President Droupadi Murmu, India’s first tribal woman President. “What kind of language is being used? The land of India has never forgiven those who abuse mothers,” he said.

Demand for Apology

Calling for accountability, Modi said that both RJD and Congress must apologize to the people of Bihar. “There should be one voice from every street and locality—we will not tolerate such atrocities committed by RJD and Congress,” he declared.

The Prime Minister’s remarks have set the stage for an intensified political confrontation in Bihar ahead of upcoming elections, as the issue strikes at the emotional and cultural sentiments of voters.
