On April 22, the citizens of India woke up to an unfortunate news of around 26 individuals being killed and over 20 injured by a group of unidentified terrorists in the Baisaran meadow area, around five kilometers from the Pahalgam valley in Jammu & Kashmir.
Often termed as ‘mini-Switzerland’ for its scenic beauty, Baisaran has now turned into a bed of a heinous terrorist attack, carried out by The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow group of the banned organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and have even claimed the responsibility for this violent behaviour.
The site is especially popular during the spring and summer months, attracting tourists from across India and abroad. The tourists were caught completely unaware when the scenes of chaos started, as the gunfire began. It is suspected that the attackers may have infiltrated from Kishtwar in Jammu and made their way to Baisaran via Kokernag in southern part of Kashmir. As soon as the news broke out, a massive hunt to track down the terrorists was launched, with CRPF & local police being deployed to control the situation. Helicopters were deployed to evacuate the injured and rescue operations to treat the injured citizens were started soon after.
The union home minister reached Srinagar on Tuesday night to assess the security situation and carry out a high-level meeting to plan the way forward. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was out of the country for an official trip had to cut it short and returned late night yesterday to meet the security officials. This news from J&K isn’t just tragic, its soul crushing. Global leaders from several nations, have sternly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack, expressing condolences and solidarity with India against terrorism. Their commitment to increase the cooperation with Indian partners in fighting terrorism in all its forms has become integral now more than ever.

US President Donald Trump, Russia’s Vladimir Putin, US Vice-President JD Vance, UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the United Arab Emirates Italy’s PM Giorgia Meloni, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other world leaders condemned the terrorist attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday and extended their unwavering support over the unforgiving act of crime through their official X (formerly twitter) and other social media handles.
The terror attack in Pahalgam happened amidst the India visit of US Vice President JD Vance and following this devastating attack on innocent civilians has left the entire country balling with anger. The PM has assured through his social media address that none of the terrorists will be spared, and the Indian army officials will retaliate back with a stronger spirit and answer.
The support extended by leading nations, especially the United States despite the ongoing trade tariff laws and unstable economic situation has been a huge relief, with both joining hands to fight against terrorism together and show solidarity in times like these.
The Pahalgam terror attack comes is being said as one of the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama bombing, due to fight over the control of Kashmir Valley, which (LeT) feels is their territory.
