As IPL 2025 resumes after the interim break, get ready for action-packed excitement, as the countdown to claim the championship title has begun. From May 17 to June 3, catch your favorite teams in action across India.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, which originally began on March 22 had to face an unexpected pause from May 7, owing to the disturbance in national security caused by the Pahalgam attack on April 22. The government had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in retaliation to the heinous militant attack in Pahalgam. This operational response had led to the temporary suspension of IPL matches.
The break was prompted from the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala, which was slated for May 8. The abandoned match will begin from a fresh note, as May 17 will witness the revival of IPL 2.0, with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru taking on Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
Once the counter-terrorism mission was successful, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the resumption of the tournament with some alterations in the original timeline. The remaining 17 matches, which comprises of 12 league-stage games and 5 playoff fixtures, will be played across six cities. The league will restart from May 17, Saturday.
This revised schedule aims to ensure complete safety of players and fans while delivering an exciting conclusion to the season. The BCCI has coordinated with government stakeholders and security agencies to implement heightened safety measures for the remaining matches.
Although, with the modified schedule an anticipated transition has taken place. Quite a few of the overseas players have decided to not participate in the remaining matches and return back to their homes, and understandably so. This has resulted in franchises signing replacement players to complete their squads.
Some of the big names like Jos Buttler, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Marcus Stoinis, will be missing from the live action as they are set to resume their national duties or recover from ongoing injuries. Fans can look forward to a thrilling finish to IPL 2025, with the top four teams vying for the ultimate-victory title in a condensed and comprehensive schedule. BCCI has announced that all the impending matches will be played across 6 venues, with the finale for IPL 2025 being held on 3 June, Tuesday.
The exact venues for these matches are Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The venues for the five playoff matches are yet to be ascertained of now. The exact schedule has been chartered out below.
Watch out the eventful matches live on your screens from May 17, on Jio Hotstar and Star Sports platforms. It’s a race to the finish now, with some of the most talented players going head-to-head.
