PM Modi Hails Trump’s Bold Gaza Peace Plan as Path to Lasting Stability

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed strong support for US President Donald Trump’s newly unveiled peace initiative aimed at ending the prolonged Gaza conflict. Calling it a comprehensive plan, Modi said the proposal offers a viable pathway to long-term stability, peace, and development for both Israelis and Palestinians, as well as the wider West Asian region.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister noted, “We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security, and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region.” Modi further expressed hope that all stakeholders would unite behind the US-led initiative to bring an end to the violence.

Trump’s Gaza Peace Proposal

The plan, shaped after deliberate discussions between President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, outlines a detailed 20-point roadmap to end hostilities in Gaza. It sets immediate conditions for ceasefire, prisoner exchanges, security restructuring, and international oversight to ensure implementation.

  • A key element of the proposal calls for all fighting to stop immediately. Within 72 hours, Hamas would be required to release all hostages—living or deceased—currently in its custody.
  • According to Israel, Hamas currently holds 48 hostages, including 20 believed to be alive as of now.
  • In exchange, Israel would release 250 Palestinians serving life sentences and 1,700 detainees held since the war began, including all women and children. Israel would also hand over the remains of 15 Palestinians for each hostage body returned.

Security and Disarmament Measures

The plan stipulates that Israel will begin a phased withdrawal of its troops from Gaza, but only after Hamas fully disarms. An international security force would then be deployed to take control of vacated areas and oversee the dismantling of Hamas’ military infrastructure, including tunnels. Hamas would be barred from participating in Gaza’s governance, though members pledging peaceful conduct could receive amnesty or opt to leave the territory.

Israel would maintain a “security perimeter presence,” a vague clause that could imply a buffer zone inside Gaza – something Hamas is likely to contest, as it has repeatedly demanded a clear declaration of war termination and a complete Israeli exit.

The proposal also ensures that Palestinians will not be displaced from Gaza. Large-scale humanitarian aid, coordinated by neutral international bodies such as the UN and Red Crescent, would flow into the territory. Meanwhile, Egypt has confirmed that it is training thousands of Palestinian police officers to eventually take over local law enforcement under international supervision.

Additionally, the plan emphasizes Gaza’s long-term rebuilding, with international partners pledging support for infrastructure, housing, and essential services. While challenges remain in securing agreement from all sides, Modi’s endorsement underscores India’s support for diplomatic solutions in West Asia.

If implemented, Trump’s plan could not only bring an end to one of the region’s deadliest conflicts but also lay the foundation for sustainable peace and reconstruction.
