How to get Aadhaar Card for Minors

Aadhaar is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on behalf of the Government of India. The number serves as proof of identity and address, anywhere in India. To be noted one main very important point is that an Aadhaar card is the proof of identity and address all over India and not the proof of your citizenship in India. So this makes the Aadhaar card one of the most important documents at present time.

Therefore it is mandatory to have an Aadhaar card in India, with everyone whether it is a newborn baby or the elderly as this particular document will be helpful in getting any kind of work, bank work or government work completed successfully. So if you have a child of the age group between 0 to 5 years then this article will surely be useful to you.

What’s the new update?

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it mandatory to get an Aadhaar card done to even a newborn baby but some criteria will not be applicable for these children while getting an Aadhaar like the child’s biometric or fingerprints are not required and their Aadhaar will be made on the basis of parents’ demographic information and photographs.

However, these childrens’ Aadhaar cards need to be updated with biometric information and their photographs once they turn 5 years and it is not at all required and allowed to get a new Aadhaar card as a person can have only one Aadhaar number. So you just need to update the present Aadhaar card.

How to get an Aadhaar for children whose age is between 0-5 years? Firstly following documents will be required before proceeding to register online:

1. Original birth certificate of the child

2. Aadhaar card of either of the two parents.

Both these documents must be original for the purpose of verification. You can book your day and time of appointment online but to get your Aadhaar card done, you will have to visit the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.

Following are the steps to apply online for Aadhaar:

1. Keep all the necessary documents in front of you.

2. Go to the UIDAI website: https://uidai.gov.in/

3. After going to the website, go to the ‘Get Aadhaar’ section and book an appointment.

4. Enter your location details. After that click on ‘Proceed to book an appointment.

5. Once you have done the 4th step, you will be able to see the ‘New Aadhaar’ option, click on that and enter your mobile phone number and click on ‘Generate OTP’.

6. The next step is, you go to the Personal Details section and enter all the required information and click Proceed.

7. Next, select the time and slot for your appointment and click ‘Next’.

8. Lastly, once you are completed with all the above 7 steps, verify all the entered information once and click on ‘Submit’ to book the appointment.

After following all the steps, you have to visit the selected Aadhaar Enrolment Centre on the day and time selected by you to complete the whole process of getting your Aadhaar card there.
