As of May 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) has listed the LF.7 and NB.1.8 Covid subvariants as ‘Variants Under Monitoring’, one level below being designated as Variants of Concern or Interest.
States Increase Preparedness
To counter this surge, several states and UTs across the country have come out with advisories asking both government and private hospitals to ensure preparedness in terms of available beds, oxygen cylinders, antibiotics, and other required drugs. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) findings, the collected samples from the western and southern regions indicate the rise is driven by subvariants of Omicron, which so far appear to be mild in nature.
Union Minister of State for Health & AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, in his press meet has assured India’s citizens that the central government is fully equipped to handle any emerging covid-19 situation. But all must abide by the regular hygiene norms in interest of their own health longevity.
Citizens Must Follow Safety Norms
Whilst the situation is being monitored and examined on a continuous basis and the CMs of different states have also been advocating the need to maintain safety and hygiene, staying alert and vigilant with all precautionary measures is the general advice mandated by the health authorities.
