Ola to help with Oxygen Concentrators

It’s been almost one and half years since Covid -19 came to India and by now almost all of us are used to living with this by helping each other in times of need. The dearth of medical infrastructure, may it be the number of doctors, nurses, or equipment needed to fight the pandemic is unparalleled. One has to admit that no country in the world was ready to fight the pandemic at a large scale. However, many private and public bodies have tried to address these issues of lack of infrastructure by both fundings as well as procuring the infrastructure from different sources.

During last year’s lockdown and even during this year’s lockdown many organizations are doing their best to help the people in need whether it is for providing cab facilities or donating blood and plasma or helping out with providing essential items like oxygenators, respiratory machines, ventilators, etc. One such organization that has come forward to help people during the ongoing pandemic situation of COVID- 19 is Ola. Sources say Ola will help in shipping oxygen concentrators free of cost by means of its app.

What did Ola, the cab aggregator services announce?

Ola Foundation, a week ago announced that it will help in providing oxygen concentrators to those people in need.

How to avail of the benefit of the service provided by Ola?

How this will work out is that people will have to request an oxygen concentrator from the Ola app by filling out a few particulars and submitting them. On submitting, the company will validate the request, and Ola will be choosing up the concentrator through one in every one of its cabs with a specifically educated driver and produce it to the requested person. This service from Ola is being provided in view of the increasing cases of the virus and also people facing difficulty to find oxygen cylinders within the required time. For doing the same Ola has partnered with a donation platform GiveIndia.

Ola is planning to start the service in Bengaluru this week with a preliminary set of 500 oxygen concentrators and later reaching out to all over the country with as many as 10,000 oxygen concentrators. Once the patient who needs this, starts recovering or does not require an oxygen concentrator anymore, then Ola will be reaching out to the person and return it back to GiveIndia so that it will come to use to the next person in need. The company took this decision hoping this will help those people who are in serious need of medical oxygen and beds helping to cope with anxiety and stress while trying to get an oxygen cylinder or hospital beds or ventilators etc.

Companies like Razorpay, digital funds options supplier have started a new option of ‘Donate now’ on its fee checkout page of all its retailers permitting its service provider to allow their clients to donate any amount once they finish their fee. Within 7 days of this, over 2,000 retailers allowed this and around Rs, 20 crores have been collected through the Razorpay platform.

Similarly Paytm will also be opening its payment gateway for NGOs for such services and RapiPay Fintech has started a unique service on its website which helps them register for vaccination slots through CoWin. I create helps in assisting, altering ICU ventilators to host a number of sufferers and in augmenting large-scale oxygen supply chains. Other companies and organizations providing somewhat similar services include IoT-enabled Chief Beta (Industrial IOT Gateway), RedCarbon TechnoHub, Collabera Technologies, Intuit, etc.

As far as possible, please stay at home. If going out, wear the double mask and frequently sanitize your hands.
