Amazon India launches new online pharmacy

COVID – 19 has been very taxing for every single person in the world irrespective of age, gender, income level, etc. The whole world has suffered badly due to COVID- 19. Poor with no jobs, no money, no food, no medicines have suffered and are still suffering while the rich enjoyed sitting at home with all the facilities available to them just at their fingertips. But the positive part of this pandemic was that most of the organizations have started their services to be available online making customers avail their company’s products and services while sitting at home itself.

Not only private but many government services can now be availed online without having to wait in a long queue for our work to be done or skip our main work to get other such work done. So to avoid time wastage, such decisions have been taken. And one such company is Amazon. Amazon India launches the service of online pharmacy.

What has Amazon India launched recently? What is the new initiative is all about?

Amazon India has launched an online pharmacy service in the city of Bengaluru and is being said that sooner it will be launching these facilities in other cities too after surveying the demand for medicines in various other cities. The company has taken this initiative of providing online pharmacy service seeing to the sudden demand for medical products and other related stuff for other healthcare startups like Practo, NetMeds, 1 mg, PharmEasy, and Medlife just like how this pandemic situation created a new market for educational technology increased during last year as there was a sudden declaration of lockdown in the country and subsequently the schools and colleges had to start online mode of education which is why tech platforms became one of the outperformed sector in comparison to other startups.

Why Amazon India has launched the new initiative?

Since the demand for medical products increased of course there will be crowding outside medical shops and at some places crowding without maintaining proper social distance. Hence through this initiative of Amazon India, they are putting their efforts to avoid any kind of chaos and confusion among the common men. And since it is lockdown and people are not allowed to move out of their house, they are compelled to find online modes like online consultation and treatment, tests of medical-related, and medicine delivery. 

What does the RedSeer Consulting survey tell about the digital health market in India?

As per RedSeer Consulting, it is being predicted that India’s digital health market may expand to $4.5 billion in 2021- 22 in comparison to 2020- 21 which was $1.2 billion. Further, it also says that medicine delivery will continue to have a large majority of the market, and consultancy service has increased its estimate of the digital health market to $25 billion in the financial year 2025 in comparison to its own report before COVID of $19 billion. 

Teleconsultations have grown by 3- 4 times in recent months at Mfine which is a Bengaluru-based healthcare service. And online consultations have increased by 600% growth since the lockdown from March in platforms like Practo Technologies where 70% are first-time telemedicine whereas 45% are from smaller cities. One added benefit in Amazon India is that those users who are Amazon Prime members are also eligible for 2- day delivery and discounts up to 80% on generic medicines and 40% on prescribed brand name drugs. 

It is tough for people to save themselves from the pandemic as well as availing the of medical services. Amazon India’s new initiative comes as a boost at the right time for the needy.
