Mera Ration App launched under the National Food Securtiy Initiative

One of the major concerns and the demon that a country like India fighting is Hunger. India stands lowest in terms of the Hunger Index according to several international reports. Out of 113 major nations, India stands 74th in terms of Food Security. The pandemic has nothing but worsened the situation for the administration.  

As we all know in the ongoing pandemic situation, all services have become online. School classes are going on online, college classes and assignments are online, offices have shifted to work from home and many government services have become online reducing the crowd at government departments and helping the public complete their major works just sitting at home and getting everything just at their fingertips. For example, the Post Office introduced the PostInfo app for the benefit of people to be easily able to track their delivery and make many other services available at home itself.

Similarly, the government has launched the ‘Mera Ration’ app benefiting especially those ration card holders who move to new areas for their livelihood and helps them to identify fair price shops nearest to their homes. This app is developed by the government in association with National Informatics Center (NIC) to facilitate various One Nation One Ration Card-related services among National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiaries. Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) people have ensured availability of ration on the implementation of One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC).

Initially, it was started with 4 states and now it has been reached out to almost all states of the country. The new mobile app aims to facilitate the ONORC-related services among beneficiaries of the NFSA, particularly migrant beneficiaries, fair price shop (FPS) or ration shop dealers, and other stakeholders.

What are the features of Mera Ration Application launched under NFSA Act?

Features of Mera Ration app are as follows:

  1. One need not contact and dial multiple numbers to locate the nearest Fair Price Shop. You can easily identify and locate the nearest fair price shop.
  2. You can check details of the following: foodgrain settlement, the status of Aadhaar seeding, and recent transactions transacted by you. 
  3. The application is available in both English and Hindi.
  4. There is an option to people’s suggestions and feedback
  5. Migrant workers can register their details through the application. 

The Mera Ration app helps migrant workers to register their details online and this technology-driven reform enables the migrant beneficiaries to get their entitled quota of food grains from any electronic point of sale (e-PoS) enabled fair price shops of their choice anywhere in the country. The government supplies 5 kg of subsidized food grains to each person per month through 5.4 lakh ration shops.

Implementation of the One Nation-One Ration Card system; ease of doing business reform; urban local body and utility reforms; and power sector reforms are the four citizen-centric areas for reforms identified by the Department of Expenditure. 

This particular app will be helpful and useful during the present situation of ongoing pandemic and imposed lockdown wherein nobody is supposed to move out of the house and you do not know how to find out whether the ration is available in your nearest fair price shop or not. Hence you can visit the ‘Mera Ration’ app, find your particular ration shop where you visit, and get information regarding the availability of foodgrains. You can also get the above information in your wished language: English or Hindi.
