In a development that could redefine the future of cancer treatment, Russia has introduced EnteroMix, a groundbreaking cancer vaccine that has shown 100% efficacy in initial clinical trials.
The announcement signals what experts describe as a potential turning point in oncology, offering new hope for patients battling aggressive cancers such as colorectal cancer, glioblastoma, and melanoma.
What Is EnteroMix?
EnteroMix is a personalised cancer vaccine built on mRNA technology, the same platform that powered COVID-19 vaccines. Unlike chemotherapy and radiation, which often cause severe side effects, EnteroMix is designed to shrink tumours, slow their growth, and trigger the body’s immune system—while remaining safe for repeated use.
According to Russian health officials, the first version of EnteroMix specifically targets colorectal cancer, but additional variants for brain tumours (glioblastoma) and skin cancer (melanoma) are already in development.
Russia’s Statement on Safety and Effectiveness
The Russian Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) confirmed that the EnteroMix vaccine is ready for wider clinical application. FMBA Head Veronica Skvortsova highlighted that preclinical studies demonstrated both safety and strong tumour-fighting capability. Results showed significant tumour reduction and delayed progression, with no evidence of toxic effects, making the vaccine suitable for repeated administration.
Skvortsova emphasised that EnteroMix is not a one-size-fits-all solution but a fully personalised therapy, customized to match the RNA profile of each patient. This personalized approach allows the immune system to target cancer cells more precisely.
Who Developed the Vaccine?
The vaccine is the result of a collaboration between the National Medical Research Radiology Centre (NMRRC), operating under Russia’s Ministry of Health, and the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology at the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Its public debut took place at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025), where Russia showcased its latest medical and biotech innovations.
How Does EnteroMix Work?
EnteroMix uses a combination of four harmless viruses to attack cancer cells directly while simultaneously strengthening the body’s immune defences. This dual mechanism not only slows tumour growth but, in some cases, has been shown to completely eliminate tumours in preclinical studies. In June 2025, Phase-1 clinical trials began with 48 volunteers. Early reports described the outcomes as highly encouraging, showing no major side effects and strong tumour suppression.
Following the completion of Phase-1 trials, the next step for EnteroMix is regulatory approval. If cleared, it could become the world’s first fully personalized mRNA cancer vaccine, changing the way cancer is treated globally. Experts suggest that this therapy could set a new standard in oncology, offering a targeted and less toxic alternative to existing treatments.

Messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines work by delivering genetic instructions that train the body’s cells to produce specific proteins. These proteins trigger an immune response, teaching the body to recognize and fight harmful cells or pathogens.
