Insurance Policy Latest News: Soon insurance policies will go digital with the help of DigiLocker

DigiLocker is an online portal managed by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology that stores a lot of documents like driving license, car registration, voter ID, PAN card, school and college certificates, and many other documents issued by the government in a digital format. All the documents that have been uploaded and updated on DigiLocker can be easily used for verification and will also be accepted as an ID proof. The method is expected to reduce a lot of costs, logistics and various other processes which shall also ensure the satisfaction of most of the customers.

With the ongoing Pandemic and a boost in digital technologies, insurance policies are expected to go digital soon. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has given a statement to issue digital insurances with the help of DigiLocker. The App can be easily downloaded from the Google Play Store. Once downloaded, the App can be used to store the scanned copies of various official documents ranging from driving license, car registration certificate, voter ID, PAN card, school and college documents. Insurance policies are expected to make its way sooner and more such documents will be supported and accepted digitally in the near future.

The Digilocker is expected to provide assistance in storing all the policy documents digitally, in an electronic frame and yet in addition reduce costs, take out any sort of customer objections identifying with non-conveyance of policy copy, time of insurance services, faster claims processing and settlement, reduction in disputes, reduction in any sort of fraudulent activities and an improvement in customer connectivity. In general, it will make all the procedures less complicated and easy.

The Government wants to promote the use of DigiLocker and for that it has asked all the Insurance companies to come onboard with DigiLocker and also start working on their IT departments to come along with the facility to enable policyholders to use it for preserving policy documents online digitally. All the insurance companies are also expected to make its customers aware of the facility and suggest them to use the portal and also guide them in the way. The insurers are also expected to enable the process by which all their policyholders or customers are guided to place their policies in the Digilocker.

The Digilocker team in NeGD (National e-Governance Division) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is expected to provide any necessary guidance, be it in terms of logistics or support or any other necessity to facilitate the adoption of Digilocker.
